Promags new 9-22 (Ruger) mag review.

I have no issues loading 26 rounds into my gen 1 mag. The last 3 or 4 rounds get a little tougher but they all fit and feed fine. I only load to 25 now, though, and usually lock the bolt first before inserting the mag. Zero issues so far after 400 rounds.

Will wait for my gen 2 mags to come in and see if they make things better/worse/same.

If they work with 23rds, break in will prob be needed to feed the full 25rds.

I get it, thanks!

Most people are willing to sacrifice a few rounds for the great look of the new mag, as long as they feed properly.

Yeah as I am as well, just new to aftermarket stuff, and just wanted to get clarification, will be watching for more reviews for sure. I realize the factory 10 shot are reliable, but who wants only 10 shots?!

These seem to be loosening up as they are being used, insert in an open bolt if you load them fully at first. Give us your feedback!

Thanks Dave! Just got the mag today. Here's some photos for Gen 1 (left) vs. Gen 2 (right):

Back of mags seem identical

New front steel pin feels solid

You can see the difference here with the revised feed-control spring

Here's another difference, the new steel front pin sticks out more, and seems to lock the mag into the receiver much better

Mag's seating positing seems good, identical to my Gen 1 mag

Overall the Gen 2 mags seem to fit a little tighter into the receiver, but otherwise identical to Gen 1. I've had good experience with Gen 1 mags so far and I expect the same from these new Gen 2s. Also, the materials used on these Gen 2 mags look a little different... maybe something to do with the molding process, no idea. The texture looks a little different for sure.

Will update with some range reports this weekend!

Im just chiming in again, wondering if any sr22 owners that have bought these mags, got the mags to fit with a extended mag release lever (proper term?) and if so, what brand of mag release?

Ive seen in another thread where a guy has shown that he cant get the .223 looking mag to fit, but cant seem to find if anyone did yet, or how they did.

We have done it on the SR22 & the Archangel kits, they look great . We have the extended mag releases also, you need to use them.

So, I got a chance to thoroughly test mine today. I would say that overall, it performed pretty much the same as my two BC 25's, my BC 10, and two factory 10's. I do notice, though, that the feed ramp part of the mag lips seems to be bubbling a bit from heat after a full mag rapid fire. Not feeding quite as well after that - but I suppose easy enough to fix. Looks 200% better (at least) as well.
So, when can we get replacement feed lips?

BTW: no pics, but I have a SR-22 with an aftermarket release - TacSol style (mag with shell will not work with factory release - unless you trim the shell a bit), VQ auto release, bolt buffer, and some other goodies. My bro-in-law is visiting, and when we were packing up guns for the range, he said "I'm not really interested in taking the .22, but whatever you want".
As soon as he watched me drain a clip, he had to try - and then try some more!

Another weekend of fun with the Ruger for me ... some numbers:

Ammo - Federal 525 Bulk, CCI Mini-mag

Gen 1 mag - 300 rounds total, 3 FTE
Gen 2 mag - 200 rounds total, 1 FTE from the first load, perfect afterwards.

All 4 FTE were from the Federal loads, as I went through 2 x 100-round boxes of CCI mini-mags without stoppage between the 2 mags so those seem to be a lot more consistent and reliable. I was able to comfortably load 25 rounds in both mags as well.

Overall the Gen 2 mags seem to be working fine! Time to pick up a couple more ! :)

So i put the Gen 2 mags up for a run yesterday (sunday) up at the range for the pumpkin shoot. I have put thru about 200 rnds on the 2 of the Gen2 and 1 of my Gen 1.

Gen 1 will sorta work with my eporx putty feed lip. Had some hiccup tho, where the bolt wont have enough energy to strip around off the mag. Maybe it has something to do with a narrower feedlip!?

Gen2 works flawless, the only problem i see with them are with certain ammos, so im assuming/ pretty certain its just ammo. Because with the Win333, it will not work with any of my other .22 guns.

All in all i think promag nail this one and a big thanks to Dave for working with promag to figure out all the issues. Only now if they will make a longer tower for the drum kit so we can use it too.

Here is the mod we did to make the new mags fit other versions of the 10/22s, remove a small section where the mag release is located. The first one was hasty, but you get the idea....

I had a chance to test my gen mag this weekend, it fed great but it's now stuck in the gun....... No matter what I do I can't pull it out, it's in there good! I'll take it all appart one of these days and try to get it to work, for now it's I'm there pretty good :( has this happend to anyone else?

Try this:

while holding onto the pistol grip, use your right index finger to push and hold the mag release forward, then with your left hand on the lower part of the mag, push forward (so that the mag is now slightly angled in the mag well), then pull down.

The new front steel pin is probably making things a little tighter in the mag well and making it a little harder to release it. I had the same "problem" when I got my Gen 2 mag because I was used to just pulling the Gen 1 mag straight down.
