Shorty Stevens 300F and 305F Scope Mounting and Accuracy Review UPDATED

I was sighting in a mueller red dot today with the stevens 305f, just shooting at spray painted blue dots, and from 50yards-ish the last 4 shot group I made, not including a flyer, was an inch or less. Using cheap winchester superx 40gr JHP, which made nice holes in the wood as well.
I wonder what a good shooter, a solid rest and scope would do?
Quite happy with it, should be good for any chicken hungry critters.

This is something I've been working on for the past few days. I've looked high and low for a low profile peep sight for this rifle but couldn't find anything that I was happy with. So, I thought I'd build my own.

This is just the "first draft" as it were. This was built out of a mild steel as it was easy to work with and would let me see what problems I may encounter. The next one will be constructed with spring steel for durability. The only thing that I will be changing is the height of the aperture as the heads of the screws are visible in this version. I'll be installing a taller front sight to compensate for this.

Elevation adjustments will be done via shims under the rear screw I think and windage adjustments by drifting the front sight.

Seems pretty solid and definitely low profile.

What do you think?

Thanks. If I can figure out how to replicate them fairly easily, and if there's any demand for them, perhaps I will.

These short Stevens are just dying for a decent peep sight, I'm sure there would be some interest. I'm certainly interested to see how the final product turns out, best of luck.

Well, I've given up on making my own. Instead, I called Savage and ordered a peep and front sight that they use on the Savage Cub. They cost $19 if I recall correctly. I'll be getting my gunsmith to cut a dovetail into my receiver which will probably cost $50 or so. For $70ish dollars, I'll have a proper, adjustable and good looking low profile peep sight.

I only wish they had decided to ship the Stevens with these sights as they are perfect for the application.
