CFSAC 2012 - What do you wanna see?

back to the shotgun thing the infantry units have them in cq's we just rarely use them

Kind of like rifles......................zing.

Availability is an issue as I would put money on most infantry regiments (if you include Reserve units) not having them.

At all of the international competitions I have attended in the last few years the host nations weapons qualification test is included. This has allowed me to qualify as Marks man or Crack Shot or what have you. I think including PWT3 as a match would be interesting and we could hand out badges to all the international competitors as everyone likes winning bling.

Tagged for interest...I like the PWT idea...but the concern there becomes that units will see it as a training venue....and send folks out just to shoot the PWT3...(or so it was discussed when I raised that idea a few years back as a way to make it a value added training event.)

NS

I agree with NS although we could use a variant of PWT3 and yes some bling for certain scores especially for our foreign competitors. This way here it is not an actual qual for Canadians, but will give us a hint as to the proficiency of the people on the line. Kind of like that idea! Dirt Diver 031 getting some ideas?!?

No offence but the LAST thing I want to do is fly all the way to Ottawa to shoot a fricking PWT of any type. Finishing in the top 1/3 should be more than enough to let you know you are doing alright.Maybe just include the internationals in the Elite 50.

We shot the host nations qualification tests in Australia, England and the US. They just scored it by hits as per the qualification to give us the badges, and by scoring areas for the match score for the medals. Longshot I know you qualified marksman at AASAM and Centsam, you did fly half way around the world to shoot a PWT a bunch of times.

The elite 50 was done away with in 2010.

Bunch'a Crackshooter's ;)

I disagree. Mid rang shooting skill is not the same as close range gun fighting skill.

The way cfsac ran "CQB" is wrong in my opinion. They put too much emphasis on shooting little boxes so they can make a scoring system out of it. It was done that way all for the ease of scoring. It was turned into a bulleye competition. Close range shooting should be a balance of accuracy and speed. You can train speed if you give people a fixed time with no award for being faster with the same accuracy. There are also problems with targetries. You cannot really train people to shoot at right spots using fig 11. To me, they are just a pieces paper with funnyprinted patterns.

If I am the guy who is opposing one of these cfsca shooters at 7 yards line, I will have pumped out 5 rounds into his chest while he only got one out. Obviously, the pace they are promoting is probably not very well in promoting survival.

They should eliminate the ridiculous CQB match 2, and incorporate rifle in the action pistol matches. The large number of dq and pt loss have nothing to do with the matches, it was a reflection of a lower competency level among many soldiers.

...but that might result in an unfair competition and make us look bad!

I would like to stop disqualifying shooters that have travelled across the country or the world to be there (especially when DQ is based on variable rules in an RO's head).

I'd like to see less focus on surprise CQB matches and more marksmanship and promotion of shooting for the CF.

Before I get crucified for my CQB comments - I've been to Afghanistan twice and shot for 20 years. IMHO, if you can shoot well at 500 m in the wind at connaught, the transition to CQB is not so hard. You can't take CQB skills back to 500.

Speed is important, but not as important as accuracy. You can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight.

True but I don't want to fly across the country to shoot our own pwt. It would be a massive waste of time. That should be left at the unit level in my opinion.
