As my Glock 17 Gen4 has just reached 5000 rounds(without any issues) I am looking at getting a replacement recoil spring. Searching around I have found a conversion kit on Glockparts that would enable me to use the Gen1, 2, and 3 springs in a Gen4 Glock.

Is it worth it or should I just get a replacement Gen4 recoil spring and call it a day?

Why would you want it if your gun runs fine? My gen4 G22 works great and I'm not going backwards with it. Plus the recoil feels better with the new spring.

the only way you would find that useful is if you wanted to experiment with different loads and bullet weights (if you are reloading) the kits allow you to change the recoil spring weights for lighter loads or more aggressive loads... thats the only benefit i see

I would consider it mainly to try out different weight springs. (for reloads)

I guess I am also just curious as to why the Gen4 Spring only comes in one weight(from what I could find) and the Gen1, 2 & 3 springs come in a variety of weights. With a conversion kit a guy could try different springs. Whether this option is better or not I have no idea.

The last thing I want is to go "backwards with it" :D

Can you back convert it to the normal spring? If there's no permanent modifications made to the gun why not. But if you have to drill or file anything I wouldn't bother. Just buy a Gen 3. Then you can play around with different barrels and everything. More aftermarket support.

It's just an adapter you pop into the larger hole in the slide for the Gen 4 spring without it the Gen 3 recoil spring will not work. If you want to go back to the Gen 4 RSA just pop out the adapter. No modification of any kind to the slide is required.

Yup have one on my Gen 4 G17, works great. Its like a $10 part and I use the original Glock RSA which is more lightly sprung (about 17 lbs.) than the new style RSA which has got to be 20 lbs. or more.
