sig 226 take down lever

I would not consciously push down on it, it's just a nice index point to place my thumb.
It should not move by using as an index point for your thumb. If yours is easy to move simply by placing your thumb on it, then there is something wrong. The action has to be open to be able to move the take down lever, so there's no way it's going to move faster than the action while shooting. So go ahead and rest your thumb on it and enjoy your shoot.

Thats how I shoot it. I rest my left hand thumb against it when firing. I know my hands are always holding the gun the same way. also it Just feels natural for my thumb to go there.

If you push down on the take down lever when the slide is cycling during rapid fire will the slide come off or will the gun jam ?

Are you reffering to the decoking lever? I believe it would be physically impossible to push down the take down lever when and fire the gun at the same time. It sounds like you may be a bit paranoid or don't trust firing a P226. This is a very safe double action semi-auto pistol. You are over analysing and looking for something bad to say about the p226. This is one of the the most reliable and proven guns out there. Like any other guns, you have to handle the gun in a safe manner an shoot it.
