Mine to. It shoots better than SA or IVI in my experience.

Humour me and take the trigger group from the canam shorty and try it in the chop mod rifle. Then try your norc ammo. Be sure to verify safety checks first though to be sure there is no hammer follow.
Question: when it fails to feed, it is NOT grabbing the round at all?
If so this means the bolt is not going back far enough. You can rule out the spring right off the bat.
MANY things could be causing this that are not related to the ammo being underpowered.

I have not fired the Norinco 7.62 x 51 ammo. Is it dirty compared to regular 308 Ammo?
Nope, won't be a worn guide rod. Put a bad spring/guide rod out of your equation, I'd almost guarantee it's not the issue.
Gi OP rod Springs are a couple of pounds stiffer. My M14 with the longer spring is in a USGI fiberglass stock. I was just informed that the USGI OP rod spring is half an inch longer than the Norinco. That is probably what I have in that M14 a USGI spring.
My experience. Gi OP rod Springs are a couple of pounds stiffer. The Gi springs would not allow my rifles (one is a shorty) to cycle far enough back to strip rounds from the mag - back to Norinco springs and GTG.

my shorty (done by M14Doc) is having issues with this ammo as well. Sometimes it wont load another round and sometimes it will just misfire, leaving a small dent in the primer......
any idea's would be great since I have 500 rnds of this stuff sitting here!
Thanks! This was my issue. First I tried switching the trigger groups as suggested by M14 Doctor but I guess the specs are a bit off as the trigger group out of one would not work in the other. I swapped the GI spring for the Norinco spring and presto, ten straight mags with the Norinco ammo and no issue!

Once again, unbelievable .
What is your problem? You yourself told me M14 Doctor knows his stuff and I agree. That is why when he told me to forget about it being the op rod spring I left that until I exhausted all other things like changing the trigger groups. Why do you have to be so irritating?

The rearward stroke of the oprod compresses the spring, so a weak spring would not prevent the picking up a round as the compression is now easier with the weak spring.
So the problem with your rifle was on the forward stroke if installing a stronger, longer spring fixed the issue.
Regardless, it's good to hear you got her running.
I am having a similar problem, since I got the barrel shortened. I tried most things I can think of with no luck. I don't think it's the spring, since the bolt is working against the spring pressure while the bolt is recoiling backward. If the spring was stronger, it would be even harder for the bolt to go back. It seems the bolt is not going back far enough to pick up the next round and closes on an empty chamber. I am convinced it is related to the piston not getting enough gas to slam the bolt back far enough before the bullet leaves the barrel. They must have done something different to make the short barrel guns work properly. Compare everything relating to the gas system of the two rifles to see if in fact there are some dimensional differences. I made a mod. and am trying it tomorrow. If it works, I'll get back to you
