Hi guys, I'm looking to purchase a .22 pistol and I've got it narrowed down to the sig 226r and the gsg 1911. Ive heard mention that you can change calibre on the sig, is this true? And if so, how difficult/available is the conversion? Price?
Because id be sold on the sig if it was easy to swap it to a 40 so I could essentially have 2 pistols for not much more than just buying the sig 226 in a 40. And I really want a .22 for fun plinking.

Thanks

An excellent choice in combo calibers.
Definately a way to go with the Sig.
I have the .22 as a whole with the 9mm xchange kit.
Swapping is just a simple take down...remove .22 slide...pop in .40 cal slide...done!
You'll find some good prices from our friends up top...SFRC and Questar should be a good place to start with price and availabilty.

Awesome, thanks man. I think that seals the deal if its as easy as switching the rails :)
I checked sfrc and they have the 226 in .22 but I'm not seeing just the rail for the .40. I'll check questar. Thanks again!

What about a CZ 75/85 and the kadet kit??

Great pistols too.

I was thinking that initially actually. I just bought my first pistol a week ago and it's the cz shadow in 9mm and I love it. The reason I was steering away from the cadet kit is because I'd like a second pistol in 2 different calibre's. This way I'll have my cz in 9mm, and the sig in both .22 and 40. Then later (when I'm not broke after buying all these guns lol) I'll pick up a .45 to have a lot of versatility. I'm thinking a Springfield 1911 (the reason I was considering the gsg 1911 in .22).

Haha it's official, although I've been a non-restricted "gun nut" since I was a kid, I'm now a full-fledged Canadian gun nut lol.

You mean buy the p226r .22 and then later on find an exchange kit in .40? Is the 226 classic .22 different than the one listed at sfrc?

I read the description and it's the same pistol. I have a SIG 226 classic in .22LR as well as an upper in .40 S&W. I also have some .22 dummy rounds so that the last round in each magazine is a dummy. It's not a good idea to dry fire these pistols with the .22 upper. The firing pin seems to come into contact with the chamber wall and the dummy rounds seem to be a cheaper alternative than buying different followers since the slide doesn't lock back when the mag is empty.

I purchased the 226 in .22 from SFRC, love it.

Only complaint is that it doesn't hold open after the 10th round...

I like my GSG; reliable and fun too shoot. good value for the money.

My best friend had one of those and they're a blast to shoot, and if I'm being honest with myself I'm sure in a few months when I get the .45 1911 I'll probably get one of these too lol. That fake suppressor is hilarious, and we all got a kick out of shooting it

Yes & No...

Yes it will stay open & No, it's not a stupid question.

The stupid questions can be found in the "Best gun for Bear Defence" thread...

;)

Hahaha well obviously the best bear defense gun is 'ol painless from predator with a grenade launcher attachment.

Thanks to you and everyone for the help, this place is awesome for a restricted newb like myself!

While with the magazines coming with the P226 Classic in .22 LR the slide will not remain open after the last shot, you can buy nice aluminum followers from the States that will hold the slide open after the last shot. Notice that is the follower that keeps the slide open NOT the slide release on the frame, so if you remove the mag, the slide will slam forward unless you manually engage the slide stop before hand. In any case, the modification is certainly worth it. Check w ww.sigpower.com
