Would it be possible hear ideas regarding the advantages and disadvantages of the 17 Remington Fireball vs 17 Hornady Hornet? Will SAKO ever chamber one or the other?

advantage of the Fireball would be about 500-600 fps more muzzle velocity

Advantage of the Hornet would be lower noise

The .17 Fireball has a better case for reloading and prolly a better, more precise case for headspace....The .17 Fireball would outdistance the other by quite a margin in still conditions. For me the big advantage to the Hornet case is, less powder, less noise and a better choice for single shot rifles like the Martinis, low walls, etc.

yeah, the 17 hornet and 17 FB aren't really direct competitors. The hornet will be much less noisy - more mild-mannered, and the FB will be more intense and flat shooting.

The hornet will get probably twice as many shots out between cool-downs, thanks to a lower operating pressure and less power consumption. Don't discount the importance of quietness, too - constant blasts really fatigue the shooter, and make the shooting experience less pleasant after extended sessions. Plus, the farmers and owners of gopher fields may appreciate it as well

The 17FB will drop a coyote at 300 yards, not sure of the distance with the hornet but I will probably add one to my safe some day. The 17s are fun!
