I took my black badge about 20 yr ago but never shot in a competition. Now that the kids are getting older & moving out I'm getting back into shooting more.
What i'm looking for is a book with a few helpfull hints & some practice drills. I cant really download anything from the net as my internet sucks!! Also I have a bad habit of shooting low . Anyone have any good practice drills or ways I can work on correctig this. Was hoping to spend the winter dry practicing to get a headstart for spring. Thanks

IF you can manage getting better internet access I would advise you follow thru on these steps: go to www.doublealpha.biz , on the upper section click on "DAA Theater", it then gives you the choice of packages (24 hr, 3mth, or 1year).......what you get for about $40 (1 year) is complete access to an array of shooting training videos (for sure watch the 3 hour ones called 3GM and 3GM-2) also many IPSC match videos from one of the top shooters and IPSC businesses in the world....I'm waiting for the new video from the World Shoot in Greece to come out the end of this month......you won't find a better "bang for your buck" in the extent of IPSC training and entertainment than you will get from this package

After that many yrs you are going to have to retake the course again. There have been many changes ofver the yrs that you will have to get caught up on from basic range commands to unloading techniques.
Contact your provincal IPSC section for a list of instructors and what will be required to start shooting IPsc again

race 1911. thanks for the web site. looks interesting but I cant open any movies. I'll have to get my kids to help me on their computers.
I'm in manitoba & may well take the course again because it has been so long. I'm not really into competitions as I have a thing about crowds but I would like to go shoot with the guys on practice nights. I am trying to get some dry practice in before spring so I dont stick out like a sore thumb when they start up again.
If anyone has any other advice feel free to put it out there for me thanks.

The BB is not really an option - IPSC has changed a lot in 20 years.
IPSC in Manitoba has significantly changed in the last ten or so years in Manitoba too.
You've got some really good guys running the sport there; you'll have a lot of fun with Brad and his team.

To make things even better; we're all coming from around this country for a visit next summer to shoot the nationals in Brandon.
Hope to see you there.

I'll be there watching. My daughter probably will be too. She has taken a real intrest in it lately also! I'm sure it will be a good & interesting time

For dry fire practice try Ben Stoeger's 15 minute practice. He does have videos you can watch, but it's mainly text so it should be easy for your slow Internet connection. Just google it and his website will come up.

Books, try Perfect Practice and Thinking Practical Shooting by Saul Kirsch, Principles of Performance by Steve Anderson and Practical Shooting by Brian Enos ... I have all 4, still getting through them right now. All available from the Brian Enos shop.

I would say that daily dry fire practice has helped me the most, since I just started shooting IPSC this year.

OP: The BB is a great course even if you don't end up competing in IPSC. It also includes your first year membership. Huge value even without the paid membership thrown in.

However, for level I matches, it is only recommended that competitors be members of IPSC. Some MDs will allow proven-to-be-safe shooters to compete at level I (unsanctioned) matches. Ask around.

I was in the same boat a while ago, although I did compete a lot in the 90's. I re-took the Black Badge course myself and it was worthwhile since there have been quite a few changes in IPSC.

Sign up for a BB course like others have recommended, it's a great way to remind yourself of the fundamentals so the other "mentals" don't get in your way, then dry-fire to your hearts content this winter, come out blasting in the spring.

Depends on your province, I believe in Ontario you must be a current member to shoot Level I's.

yes, Club level matches.

They're a good way for someone to give IPSC-style shooting a try without first making the time & $ commitment & equipment arrangements for a BB course. I understand that some people are reluctant to get into things without first giving it a try, and that's where a club match is useful.

Certainly any unknown who shows up for a Club match or practice needs to first be taken aside by an experienced shooter, and given a full orientation to the basics. If this person does not catch on and demonstrate safe basic gun handling, they need to watch rather than shoot. If they like what they saw and want to learn, then they can be referred to the local BB instructor.

Anyone who's taken the BB knows what incredible value it is to anyone who wants quality basic and advanced HG training, condensed over 2 days. The BB is an easy sell to most gun-types who've at the very least been exposed to a Club-level IPSC experience.

Thanks for all the info guy's. Where in Canada is a good place for holsters & accessories? When I took my course the last time I was shooting a Browning with a military holster. I'm no longer in the military so I am looking for another rig to go with my Sig. Like I said earlier in a post this is just for fun as I generally dont enter competitions. So I'm basically looking for low budget or entry level stuff.
