I know this is like looking for a needle in a hay stack, but in 2002 I stupidly traded my WWII Vintage Colt 1911 in Vernon at Del Selin's Gun shop. I know that he sold this gun to a customer and am now trying to locate it back for purchase. I'm assuming it was purchased by someone in the Vernon BC area. If the buyer is reading this and wants to sell it back to me please send me an email.

Correction they have to able to tell who they sold it to as it is a restricted firearm and they have to keep those records forever but rather they don't want to look for you.

You can't expect a dealer to spend hours looking through old records during hunting season to find a record that will make them 0 profit...

I did not say I would expect them to do it but I do expect them to tell me the truth. Wouldn't you as a customer expect that from a dealer that you bought from?

I have bought many guns from Del. I have known him for the last 10 years. I will ask again or his partner when hunting season is over or when things slow down.

This gun had huge sentimental value to me and YES I am a huge IDIOT for selling it. That was then and this is now.

I for one think Del Selins not only has zero obligation to help but it would be extremely inappropriate as well. If I buy a used gun it's no ones business but Del's, the govt's:)mad:) and my own. Personal information is exactly that... personal. Sorry about the seller's remorse though I can relate. Maybe fate will reunite you.

You are absolutely are correct in the assumption that the store has any obligation to provide any information to the guy now looking to buy it back.
But, what harm would it be if they where to look when/if they had the time to look for said information ?
There are many circumstances , situations where one might ask for such information to be passed on to the current holder and then if they so choose to offer said firearm back for sale, hat is of course they still have it in their possession.
just my .02's worth.

Perhaps I misunderstood. If Del's takes the time to contact the buyer and ask if it's ok to pass on the info that is not such a big deal. Just giving out the info is something that would bother me quite a bit though.

Here Here Finally with some common sense Well done FLHTCUI I comend you

I'm not asking them to outright just give me the buyers name and number. I am asking that if Del feels that it would be appropriate to contact the buyer and then ask he or she the question of wether or not they wish to sell the piece back to me. I appreciate the fact that many gun owners, myself included, prefer to be very private about our collections. I have to approach this very diplomatically and with tact with Del or Al being the middle men. As gun owners, we belong to a brotherhood and need to respect each other as there are unspoken rules of conduct that I try to follow!

Business are only required by law to keep business records on hand for seven years. The records could have been destroyed a few years ago. Its possible they may have them and a fee for searching is a good suggestion if they are still aroun. The CFC will not contact the currunt owner and risk a law suit on your behalf.

Lots of us have buyers remorse but to think where you sold it would have the time and energy to try to find the new owner is asking too much.

What if it takes a week to try to find it, willing to pay hundreds of dollars for their time, I doubt it.

If you know the serial number put in a advertisement in a gun paper, will cost you but there is always a slim chance the owner may read it, question is will he sell it.
