Hello all, I am feeling like a Duffus as I just bought ammo off a friendly guy, Buy & Sell add. He assured me that this was not reloaded ammo. I just quickly checked one box that looked good. Got home, and under closer inspection this 400 rounds is reloaded. My question is, is it legal for this guy to sell this reloaded ammo in this way?

The boys will correct me if I am wrong. If he reloaded it no but he also could have bought it reloaded from a company that is approved to do so and sell reloaded ammo. Then yes. I have ran into that before.

Hello 3mac1, he told me that he also had reloaded ammo for sell when I first called him, that I believe his father or uncle had reloaded. That is why I had insisted on no reloaded ammo. This stuff does not appear to be commercial reloads. I have come across these in the past. I am hoping he will do the right thing and return my cash. I spoke to his wife on the phone an hour ago, and she assured me he would. I am just concerned that as he said he used to be a guide and had knowledge of firearms. If this is so I am wondering why he did not know these were reloads.

Understand. I would not want it either if they reloaded it and I am almost positive he is not allowed to legally sell it.
God knows how it is reloaded. Good Luck

Yes me to, I am almost positive he is not allowed to legally sell it. My gunsmith told me when I first started out with firearms in Canada, Never fire anyone else's reloads. And told me some reasons why. Also not forgetting what we were told as kids don't take candy from strangers.
Just talked to the guy on the phone, and he has agreed to take this Sheisse back tomorrow. I phoned a Vancouver gun store and they don't think it is illegal to sell reloaded ammo, but not sure. He said he phoned a gun store (most likely the same one), and they told him it was not illegal.

Even if its a private sale?

Yes.

It's not illegal to sell reloaded ammunition that was reloaded by someone that is licensed to reload ammunition for resale. If you don't have a license, it's illegal. Some of the site sponsors sell reloaded ammunition, but the ammunition is reloaded by a source that is licensed to do so.

As above, it is illegal to sell reloads unless you have a manufacturing license from NRCAN, and the loads you are selling have been tested and approved.

However it is legal to give away your own reloads for free.......

hmmm...

So would it be legal for someone to pay me for my time reloading for them, then give them the bullets?

ie: I charge 50 bux an hour and I can make 100 rds in an hour. Im selling my services?? or am I going to jail? lol

The box you sold the ammo in was REALLY expensive. One of a kind, and you wanted $50 for it.. Then you threw in 100 cartridges, for free, as a gift. :p

The main question comes to legality. If something should happen to one of your reloads and a person gets hurt or worse....who is legally responsible?...i would never take that chance either legally or morally. but if they reload thier own , using your equipment perhaps and under your supervision, they accept responsibility totally. $50 and hurt someone???? NOT ME NEVER......
