I have just picked up a new in the box 7400 .270 but the bolt will not close?? I tried the closer on the mag but nothing moves it,took the trigger out there is nothing there and it has not been shot ,no powder .IS There is something in the release I'm not seeing or has the bolt over rotated? Stumped in B.C.

May not be pushing the mag closer to the front vs pushing in. You have the manual correct. Is it one with the internal trigger lock??

It does not have the safety mechanism and there is no way to close the bolt. The release does not do it and it seems to be hitting something on the top .I guess off to the smithy pretty p&^%d off as it was sold in new condition which it is but cannot be fired.:(

The holes for the scope go all the way through. Is there a too long screw that protrudes far enough to bind?

Thank you Mount Sweetness and Lodi ,you were exactly spot on. One of the scope base mounting screws was longer than the other three the first one ,took them out voila she works perfect.I guess I must take the sellers word it has never had anything mounted so no one has touched it must be a factory issue.Lucky I have a wealth of experience to count on thanks again Gunnutz :)

Before anyone jumps into blaming the Rem semi-autos. Please note that the problem was longer scope base screws, and it will cause the same problem on a Browning BAR, a Win model 100, and 88, a Rem 700, a marlin 336 and every gun in the world that takes scope base screws over the bolt.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Someone I know from work just had the same problem with his 10/22. Seems he had the long and short scope base screws reversed.
