Is there any difference in the fit and finish between the regular M305 and the Canam shorty M305 and can you really put on a bayonet with the gas plug that close?

Based on the examples I've seen [one of each] I would say no. Of course, as with many Chinese products, you can get a larger variation in build quality than we'd expect from western manufacturers. As for the bayonet question, I believe I saw a picture somewhere on this board demonstrating that you cannot.

Also reciever spec issues I have noted. Hence why the corrosive ammo and shorty rifle is $200 over market value.
Better to have a home made shorty and not have to deal with the reciever issues's and put up with the corrisve ammo. This deal with this corrosive ammo and rilfe combo I would pass one.

I am not sure if this is what Satain meant by that statement.....I noticed the Norinco Shorty I received from Canam would not fit into a couple USGI stocks I had without some additional fitting. My 2 polytechs and a couple other Norincos I tried fit with no problems.
I had to remove some material under the trigger pads and the trigger guard for the receiver to pass the test after assembly test.So I am under the impression that the receivers (MAY) be of a slightly larger dimension than the 2 2009 polytechs I own and the 2 other Norincos I tried. At least mine is and would this stop me from buying another one....not in the slightest .
The fit and finish on the rest of the rifle was of a little higher quality than my 2 polytechs and the other Norincos I have seen.
The front sight is on straight and the rear sights were really stiff but they actually work now as well. I still had to shim the gas cylinder to get the gas lock nice and tight at the correct position though.

This batch of shorty M305 has tight fit - that's for sure and has been confirmed by many CGNs.

On one hand, excellent accuracy was reported - partly due to the tight fit, you don't have to shim or bed your stock.

On the other hand, some people found it's hard to remove the stock.

Personally, I like shorty better. It looks cool to me.

The M4 bayonet simply won't fit. It's about 1/16" shy of latching.

could be b/c the bayonet for the m14 is the M6
the m4 is for the US CARBINE M1
but even though your terminology is wrong, the PROPER bayonet still won't fit for the same reason- you NEED an 18.5 to 19 inch barrel

You need to order a "shorty bayonet" from CanAm. :p

Currently producted Springfeild M1A uses "lugless flash suppressors" while M14 scout and M14 Socom totally gave up the concept of combat bayonet.

Don't see the point of a bayonet at all.

Thank-you for typing it for me ;)

you're puttin me on- i got it
seriously, i'm old school and still think a service rifle doesn't look right without that knife hanging on the end of it- also, springfield is a COMMERCIAL company and i wouldn't PUT STOCK in ANYTHING they do- they had MORE THAN THEIR FAIR SHARE of "hiccups" along the way- right now the lack of a bayonet lug is more of a POLITICAL ploy than anything else- the anti's stateside are STILL crowing about the 7 or so VIRTUES OF AN ASSAULT RIFLE that Kalifornia introduced back in the 90's and one of those was a BAYONET LUG- b/c springfield WANTS to sell in california, NO BAYONET LUG

Are you planning on using a navy sight or a scope? If so, you can fit the bayonet. Remove the sight, drive off the flashhider and refit it so the bayonet attaches on the 3:00 or 9:00 position...this has the added benefit of repositioning the bayonet blade on the horizontal instead of the vertical position.I'll let you figure out why it is a benefit to have it mounted thusly :D

go with the shorty
