How do you stop your scope from sliding foreword?

Today I took my new toy out to the range (Remington 700P in 338 LM w/ Millett LRS w/ Millett rings) and was in the process of testing some loads and after the first testing the first load (a light one at that) I noticed my scope had moved forward. So I tightened the rings as tight as I dared and after a dozen rounds or so I noticed it had move again. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Justin

Did the rings come with some black paper that is supposed to be installed onto all four ring halves...the anti-slip paper?

have you room for a third ring?

I may be able to squeeze one on but I hope that would be a last resort (35mm rings are not cheap). Also I just read about people putting things like silicone and liquid electrical tape on the rings and then mounting the scope, but no one confirmed this fixed their problem and I don't want to ruin anything.

Thanks,
Justin

Is the surface between the rings dry from any oil?
Are the halves of the rings maybe touching and not squeezing the scope tube.

I cleaned the scope and rings with alcohol before mounting and there is more room for the rings to tighten down (just don't want to strip the screws)

No there was no black paper to use, does this usually work and where can u get some?

Most of the Angle-Lock Millett rings come with the paper in the package. I was not sure what model rings you had.

If you don't already have a torque screwdriver I suggest you get one that way you can go to the max torque and not have to worry about stripping the rings, either way hope you are able to fix your slidding scope issue

I use the liquid electrical tape method and I find it works great.

I clean the scope and rings well with alcohol and apply a VERY thin layer to all 4 halves. Then I let it sit till the liquid tape just starts getting tacky. Don't wait till it starts to harden, that is too long. Assemble the rings with scope in the right position and torque to specs. Then I usually give the "tape" a day or two to cure at room temp.

I have never had a scope move on me. Even my 300 Wby hasn't moved the scope at all in about 300 shots. Nice thing about the liquid tape is if you screw it up, just use a brass brush and it comes right off both scope and rings with no effort.

YMMV. Good Shooting.

IMO you should lap the rings if this has not yet been done.
The bearing surface of the rings must not be good and you are only clamping down on high spots.

Lap your rings and I can guarantee you they wont let the scope slip.

I haven't used Millet for quite some time... unless they have changed lately they aren't the best to use.

Good quality rings, lapped and with a little powdered rosin should not let a scope move.

I have been looking online and I cannot find a lapping bar, where would you get one for 35mm?

I actually lapped my rings once and than had this problem. Maby the bar was a speck out .. Who knows. Anyway risky as it sounds I just used crazy glue. Worked great. I used acetone later to dissolve and remove the glue to remove the rings.

*note, I could not get new rings right away and wanted to shoot*

or install a ring as such as it will be just in front of the magnification adjustment or windage/elevation adjustment
cause it's not actually the scope that's going forward, it's the gun that slides backwards

I use Avery self adhesive labels. Clean rings and apply labels to both half's, trim with exacto knife. This also prevents "ring" marks on scope. Adhesive transfers through to scope and whiskey will wipe it clean.

What do you suppose happens when the scope slides in the rings, and the magnification ring comes up against the scope ring? It jams the magnification ring, so that it won't move.

I have never had this type of issue, but I also avoid Millet rings.
