REMINGTON 700 SPS DM will not feed properly?

I purchased a used 700 SPS 243 several months ago and I am just now getting to shoot it. The rifle seemed to be in good shape but I discovered that it will not feed shells from the right hand side of the detachable magazine and the mag seems quite loose when it is installed in the rifle. (To get the bolt to pick up shells from the right hand side of the mag you have to lift the rear of the bolt up as far as it will go while pushing it ahead) Wondering if this is a known problem and if there is an easy fix ?

Thanks

Well, you know why it was for sale now. I had a new SPS DM in .243 for about an hour, some years ago. It had this neat feature where you worked the bolt and all the cartridges flew out the top. It got returned unfired, and replaced by a floorplate model that worked.

You can probably get it running by bending the magazine lips, but one has to wonder why Remington couldn't get it right. Problems with their mags are far from rare.

I have the same rifle in 243 as well. Make sure you insert the mag with the front tipped up into the mag well a bit then push it all the way in. Sometimes the front isn't fully engaged and it sticks down about 1/16", even though it's locked at the back. All the way in and mine loads fine.
