Stolen deer

I had knocked down my deer gutted and hung in a tree. Went for the truck and some SOB had shoved a branch thru my radiator. Guess he wanted me to leave my deer and walk home so he could take my buck...Guess that happened as I had a cell phone and called a buddy and police but he had come from the opposite direction and carried it out.

We need to take care of eachother.... I got my buck opening day... not a huge buck... just the fella in my avvy... I spent the rest of the seaon cruisin' the roads and helpin the boys haul, skin and hang etc.... its good times and we all have comraderie... and that is what it is about....

I think a lot of deer hunters feel a certain pressure, either real or perceived. Successful hunters brag about their bounty. Even the non hunters at home and work ask "did you get anything?" The insinuation is that if you're unsuccessful, you don't know what you're doing, or you're just going to party with the boys.So the same people who cheat at cards, golf, etc. are the same type who would steal a deer to fake success.

The sad thing is that there has always been and will always be these idiots out in the woods. A**holes that are too lazy to get their own deer or feel that anything they run into is theirs. Sometimes the culprits are people you least suspect.

For this reason I never leave an animal unattended or at least pack the head and cape if it is a good one back to the truck with me when I go fetch it. In my youth we would debone and put an animal into game bags and pack it out or drag it back to the truck. If there are more than one of us hunting someone stays with the animal.

In the past a fellow could set up a camp or leave the keys to the vehicle on the front seat when you hunted with no worries. Today is sadly different. However, I still feel the vast majority of hunters are good respectful people and I'll take my chances with them anytime.

It seem that some people will do anything for a set of horns. On another web site a guy mentioned that a year or so ago his daughter shot a real nice buck, somebody stole the head out of the truck later. I also heard of an elk head being stole from a truck in Maple Creek a few years back. Arsholes abound in every part of the country.

stealing deer

I guess I am lucky then. I have my two sons hunting with me. They are 14 and fifteen and both stand over 6'3" tall. Fifteen year old now has minor's permit and own tag so he carries own gun while I am with younger brother. No one leaves dear alone and then it goes straight to the butcher for hanging right out of the field. Good thing for family hunting.

14 and 15, and both are over 6'3"?? Dear baby jesus what are you feeding them!?!?!?!

The most common theft was a group returning from a deer hunt then stopping at the bar for a few. When it's time to go the deer are gone right off the roof rack.Used to happen in Ontario all the time with people returning from Manitoulin Island when I lived there......Harold

Its gotten so ####ty in area 92 for the controlled hunt that I only hunt where I can watch my truck thru the scope. Tresspassers and thieves are starting to outnumber the legal law abiding hunters
