Pros- cheap, fun 10 round magazines
Cons- Corrosive, which isn't a huge deal in an AR with a chrome lined barrel

One con is the super cheap ammo will eventually dry up. It is all surplus ammo and once the cold war stocks are gone, they are gone.

Thats said, their are a few new production 7.62x39 ammo options out their (Norinco and MFS to name a couple), but they are not even close to the low price of the surplus stuff.

But even the new stuff isn't much more expensive than .223, plus there is still 1990's surplus that will take a while to dry up.

Here's what I think.

You get either the 7.62 or 5.56 upper now.

Then, later, you get the opposite one and then you have TWO!! Your #### won't even fall off!

Marstar has some TNW pistol uppers but they are sold out right now. They have a demo gun for pretty cheap in the special clearance section. They are harder to find than a .223 but they are around.

Dlask has both 16" rifle and upper for sale and you can probably order any other length from them, since they make them in house.

No one will really know when the supply of surplus ammo will dry up, however considering there are more than 14 million AK out there, the amount of ammo should last awhile longer and we have really tapped into the Russian made factory loads yet, the worst case scenario they will be priced at the same as .223.
