You Know You're a Handloading Addict If...

I'm an addict of some kind.

I tried selling 300 &7mm SAM (saum) factory ammo. The 300 sold but I still had the one box of 7mmSAM left so I thought what the hel* and bought the rifle to match the box of ammo, and now I'm happy.

Since I've taken up reloading the only factory ammo I've bought is .22LR, and since I've taken up casting the only bullets I've purchased are, well, .22LR :) I just can't even bring myself to pay $20 for 100 bullets, when for double or triple that I can buy a nice mold and make my own. I'm stocking up on gear for casting/reloading calibres that I want but don't have yet, and who knows when or if I'll ever get them. The very best part about going shooting is the bucket of dirty, empty brass at the end! But addicted - no, I don't think so. In denial at this point anyways;)

I have a wildcat calibre custom mauser. Chambered in a cartridge that's based on the H&H magnum case. I have plenty of cut/trimmed/reformed brass ready to go for it, sitting all nice & shiny in plastic see through bins. But every time I'm at our local range I almost always pick up discarded 7mm Mag and 300 Win Mag brass for reforming. It takes about 20 minutes of handwork to form each brass case to my needs. The "to-be-prepped" pile continues to grow and grow!

You know your an addict when you keep buying components even when you have more ammo than you will shoot in several years.;)

Yeah, but you never know when supplies might get scarce. For instance, I've heard recently that guys were paying more than $24/k for primers. Can you believe it!?:p

I'm new to reloading but I think I'm hooked....

You know you're addicted when you make the wife and kids eat supper in the living room because you have your reloader set up on the kitchen table!

You know you're an addict when;

You drive an hour back up the mountain because when you got home you were missing 11 pieces of brass.

I'm quite fond of my brass.

  1. The only women you see are the "Dillon Blue Press Girls" ..
  2. Your wife post stickies on your press :)
  3. You spend an evening taking down a press just to clean and put it back together instead of watching a hockey game.
  4. You have the latest reloading book on your night table

1) When you call up a friend that does not reload but does shoot the same caliber as you to go to the range to sight in his rifle for hunting season knowing full well he will just give you his spent shells because he does not shoot enough in a year to care about buying factory ammo. (you also know this friend is trigger happy and cares more about getting lead down range than how accurate it is)

2) Convincing said friend to buy brand X of factory ammo because it uses the same brass you use to reload.

3) Eating way more kraft peanut butter than is healthy so you can have the container to label something like "winchester once fired" or "full length resized" etc

4) Eating chunky kraft peanut butter for above reason instead of smooth because the red lid to the chunky matches your lee reloading gear way better than the green lid the smooth comes in.

Sad but true

When you actually take a bit of time to hunt, the only thing important is bullet performance. Finding yourself so dissappointed in a failed bullet that happened in a one shot kill, you go buy some other kind of bullet, and put the other ones on the shelf, and because you buy bullets in larger quantities, you find yourself with hundreds of bullets you won't use and can't bring yourself to sell...
