Hi folks,

I recently acquired a M1917 and after a close inspection, there's one issue. The trigger needs to be brought all the way back and still doesn't fire. If I force it a bit more, then it seems to be getting far enough to get the bolt to fire.

I took the rifle apart and I think I narrowed down the problem to the right spot, but not being a mauser-action guy, wouldn't mind some advice. All the bolt parts look ok. But here is the trigger; could it be that someone tried to get a lighter trigger pull, or something like that, and that now the contact surfaces of the trigger are simply too low? If so, who would have a replacement part :)

Thanks

Lou

I've got one, Lou.:)

It is the complete trigger and housing in excellent condition.

I replaced the military trigger on a BSA sporterized M1917 years ago with a Timney Sportsman and then sold the rifle.

It is around here somewhere, I just have to find it.:(

If the P17 trigger is like a mauser it should have two humps for the double stage feature looks like someone filed it off ........Harold

Thanks guys.

MapleSugar, if this is indeed the source of the issue, I would very gladly become the new owner of your trigger assembly and reunite it with a complete rifle - if you locate it! :)

If you can't get a trigger take the one you have to a welder and add a little blob of weld where the hump was removed then you can just recut it with a file. good luck.

Thanks guys.

I found it last night and took some pictures of it for you.

Don't worry too much about the appearances, it has some weird lacquer spots on it that look like rust under the flash of the camera. The first picture is more indicative of what it looks like to the naked eye.

I tried removing them with Kroil and WD-40 to no avail.

In any case, it has very little wear on it and functioned fine in the BSA M1917 I used to own.

I did much prefer the trigger pull of the Timney Sportsman I replaced it with, but I had to file out part of the stock to get it to fit. It was already chopped, so it didn't matter.

If you want it, just send me your address in a PM and I'll mail it to you.

I guess it pays to be a pack rat after all; I've had that part kicking around since about 1993.
