Ok, so here is what I have:
-SA Socom II with quad rail (not extended version of quad rail)
-Eotech

What I intend to do:
-Mount a magnifier infront of the eotech over the ejection port. It would also be nice if I had enough room to drop a flip up battle sight infront of the magnifier.

Problem:
-The quad rail does not extend over the ejection port and takes up the threading that would be used to throw on another mount to fill the gap.

Solution:?
-My best guess would be a rail long enough that can be locked into the dovetail where the stripper clip guide sits. But I have never seen something like that, Ive seen short ones with maybe 1 or 2 slots of rail space but I dont know if that would be enough to mount a magnifier and definately not enough to mount a magnifier and a battle sight.

Any suggestions?

PS: I looked into getting the extended quadrail I had posted WTB in the EE for a few months and finaly found a distributer willing to take one off a rifle and sell the rifle with out it at a discounted price, only to learn that the top part of the quadrail is attached to the reciever with headless rivits. This would require a gunsmith to take it off and would damage the rifle. So that option is off the table...

Yah I already played around with that idea. I got an opportunity to play with a troy and I didnt like how massive and heavy it is, plus I wasnt impressed by what it actually did in comparison to what it claimed to do to reduce recoil. I ended up buying the VLTOR assuming I could simply buy the extended quadrail and everything would ballance out. But that idea got shot down.

How ever I just googled the Troy battle rail and I am interested. it looks like it would be lighter then the Vltor Quadrail and I could simply install a bottom rail, but what of availability and price? I imagine if I did comit to the idea of Troy I would be waiting another 4 months before someone even considered selling one. Ill keep it in mind but I was thinking something more like the LBRArms mount found here

at the bottom of the page. except shorter so that it stops where the quad rail begins. ever seen anything like that? I am not ruling out buying that rail and cutting off the over hang.

My biggest question is if it will line up properly... Oh crap I just noticed that rail requires work done to the reciever, clearly work done by a gunsmith. and the stripper clip guid dove tail is clearly cut in half and the slots the rail locks into are clearly also cut into the reciever. not to mention drilled and threaded.

The LRB is not a scope mount, it's a rail and receiver set where the receiver is manufactured to accommodate the rail. Even if you got and m25 and cut the rail back I'm pretty sure they wouldn't line up

Hm, so wait you buy the receiver already cut for the rail? hm interesting, would that classify it as a seperate fire arm? what with it holding the serial number and all.
Wow ok back to the topic at hand. ok... any ideas besides the troy (which is starting to look like a good idea btw)

Hey Im not sure what the name of this part is but its the peice at the end of the fore end of the rifle that the top hand guard and the stock lock into. anyways the troy battle rail looks like it has a replacement Im not even sure how to take that piece off... would this rail require installation from a gunsmith? or is this something i can do with the tools i have on a multitool?....

You'll need castle nut pliers to take off the castle nut and flash hider, that's a 20$ tool. Then a small wrench to take off the gas plug... then unscrew the gaslock, and pound the gas cylinder off with rubber mallet. You can then remove the front band and replace it with the troy rail band. You should be able to do it yourself with a few tools... more than a multitoool though

And yes the LRB would be a sererate firearm.

I posted in the Armco section seeing if they, as the Vltor importer, would be bringing in the new Vltor quad rail that goes al the way back to the stripper clip dovetail. That thing looks like the ticket. I guess you could also keep your current quad rail and get a qr rail that attaches to it and spans back over the receiver, like the Larue lr-608, I think it is, that lotsa guys are running on their Sages...

Pm or email CQB Services here on gunnutz, they sell the Troy M14 battle rail, $330+HST & shipping

Maybe one of these two might be an option;
h ttp://www.m14.ca/M14_M1A_CASM_RD_Scope%20Mount.html, failing that give H20 man a PM, he's done quite alot of work on M14s, especially with different rails/scope setups.

Ive had bad experiences trying to import items from the states, so I turned away from Hamerica and dove deeper into Canadian forums. I dont want to go to jail for violating some US exportation law. Ive already been threatened with jail time from some American officials just for looking into getting a Troy MCS shipped to me. All I did was ask... unpleasent to say the least. But what with them having so much more options and so many more people dedicated to just m14's it would be ignorant of me to not investigate. Ill create an account today and see what I can find! If I find something I'll be sure to let you know.
