Hey guys, so this is the first time I've gone out hunting since I was younger and fell under my dads hunting license, and I had a question about it. Is it okay for me to go hunting with a few friends who have their hunting licenses and bring my own rifle (I have my pal & rpal) even though I do not have my hunting license? I have no intention to shoot something I just want to get out and join in on the hunt.

Even to "push brush" or anything to do with the hunt itself, you must have a license.

If you want to sit at camp and cook the food, clean the dishes, etc.. Then you can be there, but I would make damn sure there were no firearms nearby that you had access to or even a visiting CO would have a hard time believing you were not part of the Hunting.

Even if you don't use the Tag, the money for it still goes (supposedly) back into the system for use in wildlife management, so it's not "lost" money. Someof it will be going to support yoru chosen activity.

A license to push bush???

Not out here, anyone of any age can go along.Just wear your colors.

You need younglings anyways to drive the deer out while the old fellers post!!;)

In ON you can't. But at same time you sort of can.

It's simply you must be unarmed and WITH someone with a valid license. So if someone is pushing you can be beside them. Or if in a stand/ground blind/whatever you can sit beside them. But again can't bring your own weapon and can't shoot at anything.

Not 100% sure on that, but fairly certain that's how it works.

Yup. Welcome to Ontario :(

You need a license to Hunt.

Hunting, as defined by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997
“hunting” includes,
(a) lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing, chasing or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed, injured, captured or harassed, or

(b) capturing or harassing wildlife,

except that “hunting” does not include,

(c) trapping, or

(d) lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of or pursuing wildlife for a purpose other than attempting to kill, injure, capture or harass it, unless the wildlife is killed, injured, captured or harassed as a result

If you are stalking game animals in order to phtograph them, you do not need a license. If you are stalking them (pushing bush) to aid a hunt, then you need a license here in Ontario.

Well, there you have it. Bring your camera. Why would you take a rifle along anyways if you had no intention to shoot?

There, changed.

Now see what everybody has to say. There is no law saying you can not accompany a friend out on a hunting trip, regardless of you not having your license. As long as you don’t (get caught) shooting you are fine. It’s your friends license/tag, therefore he has to fill it.

If you are on Crown Land then you have every right to be there. You can only get busted for "hunting" if a) you admit to hunting or b) you get caught shooting something or at something. Oh, and looking at game through binoculars does not mean you are hunting.

Have fun.
