So this season I've been mentoring a girl who's just getting into hunting. She's been out duck hunting and goose hunting a few times but has yet to kill anything. She hunted with us the first week and we used her buck tag on day two and kept my doe tag so she could continue to come out with us. I put her in front of 3 deer on the second week and it was wednesday night when she finally got a good shot. Unfortunately it was a clean miss on a nice doe. So she volunteers on a horse farm and the owner invited her to hunt with him on the last day of the hunt. He even loaned her a gun (she doesn't have one yet) and she made it very clear that she had a license but no tag as we'd already used it. Anyways, she got a shot and killed a nice little 4 pointer. From what I'm told the landowner turned into a complete idiot, tagged the deer and refused to share it with her at all. She doesn't even have the antlers from her first deer. :mad: She's very upset and it's pretty obvious this guy is a world class douchebag. What kind of person acts like that?
 
The owner of the horse farm showed very poor etiquette towards another, particularly a young new hunter. Very disappointing indeed.

He should share the meat, and certainly ensure this girl has the antlers from her first deer. That would be the right thing to do.

She should atleast get the rack, and a share in the meat. The shooter gets the antlers, the gang shares the meat equally. Thats how hunting gangs work. This should have been established before the hunt, but you would think its a common understanding on what happens.

Because she only had a buck tag and I had a doe tag. I'm not sure about your camp but any party I've ever hunted with uses up the buck only tags first... :rolleyes: If I'd put my doe tag on that buck, I'd have immediately cut her chances in half for shooting a deer and she actually would not have been legal to shoot at that doe in the second week.
 
Any one in your area have spare meat to share with her? It'll go a long way towards making her feel better.

Maybe she should stop volunteering for douchebags too...
 
Not to stir the pot, but if she had a buck tag, she should of cut it on her deer.
Then there would be no ifs ands or buts about who's deer the one she shot is.
And to voice it on here............I can't believe I'm reading this.

She had a buck tag... Op used it as she was part of his party to keep doe tag open... Primary mission here is to get those antlers... Meat may be a hard sell... Like I said earlier she deserves it but antlers most important at this point... Hell, he is just gonna toss the head
 
A shoulder mount of a nice horse would look good i guess. Jk , but that guy is clearly a douche bag. Maybe you should go talk to him or you and her bf or something. At least get the antlers
