got one given to me today. i don't know much about beretta shotguns. what can i expect from this unit?? feels really nice and shoulders well.

I have one in 20 gauge. Sweet little gun. Reliable, soft shooting, fairly easy to clean. Be careful cleaning the engraving and gold plating. I have a small spot of finish that flaked off.

I am not unbiased about the Beretta 391. I own two and like them. The 391 is reliable, will function with shells from the lightest target loads right up to 3" magnums. Handles well and can go a couple of thousand rounds between cleanings.

It does have a couple of quirks. It doesn't like to be dry. Best functioning is with a good application of oil. The forend nut particularly needs to be lubed and if ratcheted down too tight as it can seize.

It can also be a little tricky to get the breech block and operating rod back into the gun cleaning. It is much easier when the trigger assembly is out of the gun.

If you got all the parts you will find spacers and shims to adjust the gun's fit. They work very well and my 391s fit just as well as my custom-stocked guns.
