Another Stevens 200 project ...

"More options to build up your Savage, Stevens or Axis in the coming months."

Can I assume you can utilize the Axis to build up a custom? Are there more problems to over come with them, or is a person better off looking for a Stevens action? Thanks.

Having built on the stevens action myself they are a great bang for your buck.
The stevens 200 and the savage actions are great to build on imo and they shoot as good as the rest.

Nice build a 260 is a great accurate cartrige.

The Axis can be used for a build. Just depends what you want to build. For a hunting platform, it can do very nice work. Timney makes a trigger, EGW makes some MOA bases.

Beyond that, it is not supported by the aftermarket so there are no stocks at this time.

For a precision or competition or tactical rifle, Savage and Stevens is the way to go.

The Stevens 200 is a great base to expand upon. To the OP, Great shooting.w:h:
Suggest some work with H4350 or H4831sc as well. Varget may be a bit hot for a 139 no?

Just put my 30 inch Shilen Select match 1-8 barrel (Thanks Jerry at Mystic) on my old Stevens 200build. I had Gunrunner8 complete the 260 rem Chamber job (many thanks on fine work gunny). Preliminary test loads to find nodes resulted in 3 which offer excellent potential with 130 bergers.

Interesting to note that a mild node of 42.0 gr and moderate node of 43.0 gr H4350 with Berger 130s provided around 2825 and 2910 fps respectively before the light crapped out on my load testing. I would expect some good barrel life with these loads.

Best 3 shot 100m groups run in the mid to high 0.2s range with the best at 0.221. I long for the day for a measly 8kph wind. Can't wait to get it out to 200m to find out what really is going on. Elky....

44 grains of varget, in a .260, with a 139 grainer? Isn't that like 8 grains beyond maximum? What's your COAL? Any pressure signs? Those groups look pretty promising, and I've got a Savage in .260 that I'd working with

My mistake, I wrote Varget when it should have been H4831sc. Normally I always use Varget for my 308win so it was a bad habit ... :p

Question. Can I rebarrel a Stevens/Savage action in 7-08 to .223 cal. I assume I need a new bolt face. Are they expensive? could I go to 6.5x55 from the 7-08 or is that a different length action. Thanks guys.
