I have a 700 SPS and I have been think about accurizing it before I rebarrel it (with a heavy barrel) and put it into in a better stock.

Has and anyone free floated the sporter barreled SPS and had good results?

Has anyone bedded the original plastic molded stock? If so, what material did you use? I understand plastic stocks do not take well to bedding compounds.

Let me know what you know... thanks.

I have a SPS tactical with the hogue synthetic stock that I bedded. Pretty easy, turned out really good. I used Devcon steel to bed it, used a dremel to relieve and rough up some of the plastic where the action seats. I just followed the directions in the sticky post in the Gunsmithing section

Thanks for the link, it is good for wood stocks but may not cover the neccesary differences with glass bedding plastic stocks.

From my research it looks like it is best to clean the plastic with alcohol then score it with sandpaper before applying any epoxy.

I have purchased a Hogue stock at a reasonable price (shipping was a real kicker though) which was from a 7oo tactical. I am going to drop my action with the sporter barrel in it to see what effects free floating will have. I'll post more in a few months time after I try it out. Eventually I'll rebarrel with a heavy barrel and then bed the action and reinforce the forestock.

On an SPS stock the centre rib can be hogged out end to end or lengthwise so a quarter inch piece of aluminum channel can be inserted and epoxied into place. When the Action is bedded the barrel can be free floated.
