So, at the range plugging away with my CSA (7.62x39), and I get a FTE, clear it and kept on going, another, lower hanguard loose. Stop, clear it, prove it and give it a good look.

The pin that holds the gas block assembly under the barrel (that's what I call it) has broken right through the metal that surrounds it and the entire assembly has shifted forward!

I will post pictures tomorrow when I get them off my phone.

Only about 100 rounds in for this gun. First call tomorrow is to North Sylva to find out the process and what to do next.

I will update with pics and NS comments.

So its the gas block itself thats broken ? I notice that my gas block on my CSA looks different in shape than my CZ858 block .. I'm thinking the CSA gas block might be newly made and not military surplus parts .

Damn, I was just about to order one of these. I will have to wait and see the pics to decide how bad I want it now.

you are going to make a base judgment on 1 malfunction??

I have 2 CSA and my 7.5" hasnt had 1 hickup yet with alomst 1000 rounds through it and my 11.8" has had any kind of problems either. But only 300 rounds through her so far.

I too am looking forward to seeing these pics.

I will say this. It is an awesome unit, Accurate, and fun.

It is also a mass produced unit, some may have problems, some may be flawless, mine is obviously one of the former.
Big Deal, it happens. It will get warrantied or I will pay to have it fixed, nothing to stress over....

Here are the BB pics, not great res, but I think you can see what I am getting at

you can just see the crack line running parallel to the retaining pin

The next two show how that entire Assembly has shifted forward

Contacting NS today to see the procedure for warranty.

Thank god for your front post sight block or that could have been a real fire ball.

Yes.

An update. North Sylva contacted me and the wheels are in motion. Great Service!

Again, I cannot stress enough how awesome this gun is. In the little time I have used it it has been a fun accurate toy. so much so that I think I may get a compact version to play with!

I am not going to judge anything until I see the pics. I have been looking for info on these and there hasn't been a lot of chatter so far. We see nice pics when someone gets one, then nothing more. Good to hear yours are running well.

OP, that is certainly something that bears watching. The consequences could have been a lot worse than a few malfunctions, lucky you caught it in time.

Afternoon update.

Temp ATT has been issued and firearm is going to North Sylva tomorrow. They have a CSA tech in town this weekend so.....fingers crossed for a quick turnaround. Talk about luck on my part

My thoughts:
Products fail
Things break
Defects in material are unavoidable when mass producing any item

How a company/distributor handle issues when they arise is the difference between a mediocre experience and a terrible, souring experience.

Timeline:
1 Gun failed at 7:25pm last night
2 Email and blackberry pictures sent to Ryan and Marcie at SFRC at 7:36pm
3 Ryan responded at 7:51pm!
4. Thread posted at 11:27pm - as info and observation, not as #####ing and moaning.
5 North Sylva initiated contact with me first thing this morning via PM after seeing this thread!
6 Ryan from SFRC called my cell to confirm some details
7 Ryan sent a copy of my invoice to Jeff at North Sylva on my behalf!
8 Return Process was explained
9 CFC called and paperwork straightened out
10 Firearm will be fixed (hopefully) over the weekend.

This is an exemplary illustration of service and support that goes well above and beyond.

Thanks to Ryan at SFRC and to Jeff at North Sylva, these two are examples of how businesses should be run.

More updates after I get it back.

Yes, whenever I get back to back malfunctions I stop everything and fully inspect. 5 minutes taken to use your head and eyes could save a lot of trouble and injury. It is easy to get used to what we love and enjoy and forget that we are holding a device that contains controlled explosions that if not functioning correct can cause serious harm.

Like my one armed one eyed uncle says. "safety third!"

Um that is what I still meant. No chatter?? I made a review on mine when I got it a while back. Several other people have done it with their recent purchases aswell.

When Dlask did my conversion they installed a larger than normal pin on the gas block. It would seem to me that this area would be under more stress with an SBR. They know what they are doing, so I'm sure they had good reason to use a larger pin.

How could it possibly be under more stress?

They probably used a larger pin because they bored the OEM gas block and new barrel together and wanted to ensure a proper fit for the pin.

100 rounds and major failure, and it's awesome?

Yes....

I also have a summer toy car that had a catastrophic engine failure at 2000 kms.
Warranty, new motor, Corvette Z06 as a loaner while it was being worked on, yep, it is still an awesome car, just as this is still an awesome gun. Just has a problem that is going to be looked after.

Just as I was spooling the car up and testing its limits, I was running the CSA pretty good too. In both cases (car and gun) they should not have failed, but they did. Oh well, I have many other toys to play with while this gets fixed. No stress.

I'm not one of these guys who have an issue an immediately dismiss the item as garbage, inferior, etc.

S#it happens, you deal with it and move along. It really is that simple.
