So I picked up a brand new Remington 700 5R from the guys at ATRS today... I was looking for an entry level .308 for some mid-range target and maybe an odd hunting trip with my dad. Guess I found it! LOL

Once I let my bank account recover from the rifle, I'll pick up a scope for it. Until then a friend is lending me his Leupold and Bushnell Elite to try out. I've got my eye on a NF 5.5-22x56 so it may be a bit before money is put away for it.

I don't have the money for reloading supplies yet, so I'm going to stick with decent match ammo for now. I've picked up a couple boxes of Federal, Remington, Hornady to try out for now.

Here goes the pay cheques for a while....Bring on the ranges!

For the price of 10 boxes of match ammo (200 rounds) you can buy a reloading kit.

^ Yup, and I've yet to meet a rifle that shoots factory ammo to the gun's actual potential.
An arbitrarily chosen match handload shot to .4MOA, without developement, in the 5R we played with last summer. Very nice rifle.

May I suggest, from 40 years experience ..... Lee collet, Redding body, and Redding/Forster BR seater die. With this die combo, runout will not be a hindrance to results.

Same buddy that is going to lend me a scope for a while until I can get one of my own, also has loading equipment. I'll probably see if I can scam some time in his workshop to learn loading....after I can used to all the other little things that come with precision shooting...

We've been experimenting with Hornady 155gr Match ammunition and it is outstanding. No reason not to use it in competition. Only catch is that the best price I've found is $30/box all in.

IMO, precision shooting IS hand loading, and vice versa. :)

Ask lots of questions .... and be prepared to rush down to your targets with a hightened sense of anticipation.w:h:

The 155 grain amax match ammo through DCRA? I have a friend that shoots it and he seems to like it, definately likes it alot more then the superformance match 178 grain ammo from hornady.

Yes, Hornady with the 155 AMAX. I've bought it from DCRA, it is available elsewhere, of course.
We have tested it in different rifles at MilCun. In rifles capable of subminute performance, the groups are subminute.
In comparison with my handloaded match ammunition - Lapua case, CCI BR, 47 Varget, 155SMK, elevations are very, very close.
