CSA 11.8 breakage. Updated Dec 22

Afternoon update.

Temp ATT has been issued and firearm is going to North Sylva tomorrow. They have a CSA tech in town this weekend so.....fingers crossed for a quick turnaround. Talk about luck on my part

My thoughts:
Products fail
Things break
Defects in material are unavoidable when mass producing any item

How a company/distributor handle issues when they arise is the difference between a mediocre experience and a terrible, souring experience.

Timeline:
1 Gun failed at 7:25pm last night
2 Email and blackberry pictures sent to Ryan and Marcie at SFRC at 7:36pm
3 Ryan responded at 7:51pm!
4. Thread posted at 11:27pm - as info and observation, not as #####ing and moaning.
5 North Sylva initiated contact with me first thing this morning via PM after seeing this thread!
6 Ryan from SFRC called my cell to confirm some details
7 Ryan sent a copy of my invoice to Jeff at North Sylva on my behalf!
8 Return Process was explained
9 CFC called and paperwork straightened out
10 Firearm will be fixed (hopefully) over the weekend.

This is an exemplary illustration of service and support that goes well above and beyond.

Thanks to Ryan at SFRC and to Jeff at North Sylva, these two are examples of how businesses should be run.

More updates after I get it back.
WoW now that is some real service from Ryan & Jeff  to them for stepping up to the plate and fixing this issue in such a promt & profesional manor.

How could it possibly be under more stress?

They probably used a larger pin because they bored the OEM gas block and new barrel together and wanted to ensure a proper fit for the pin.

You may be right, I don't know.

But consider that the recoil impulse is much different with an SBR. The volume of gas moved through the block is much different and the cyclic rate is different, heat is higher as well.

If anything, a larger pin will make the gas block weaker due to having less material around the pin on the bottom side.

Is there really that much difference when we're talking about a 12" VZ? There's not enough difference in to notice while shooting it. When the gas is being tapped at the exact same distance from the chamber, how can it be hotter? More volume, sure, because of the larger gas port, but more heat?

Look at AR gas blocks. There aren't special models for SBRs, just the same old regular gas blocks.

Firearm is being replaced with a brand new one as per CSA and North Sylva.

Should know more as to when later this week.

Again, great service from both NS and SFRC

Wow, end to end great service, although I'm sure that you get good service quite often - people will bend over backward to help someone who has a genuine issue and asks, people with an issue who b*tch, moan and complain - not so much - kind of a karma thing, really.

SO now just waiting on the transfer and my new one comes home.

Thanks again North Sylva (Jeff Chow) and SFRC!

I also received a slight "upgrade" to the compact model!

Cant wait to get it to the range now.

Compact model received. Way better pinning job on the gas block. It was pretty apparent how poorly mine was first done - in terms of where theY drilled and pinned it, surprised it held up for the time it did before letting go.

To recap, SFRC and North Sylva were awesome and very accommodating.

Now to put my AKFX stock on the compact!
