What's a good bullet for the 45-70? 45-70 boolits

Another vote for jacketed. I've found the 350 hornady's, 350 and 400 speers, the 325 hornady lipsticks (for shooting paper), and 400gr hawks are all super accurate.
I, too like a healthy dose of IMR 3031.

Guess I'm the dissenting opinion, I tried the hardcast bullets, I don't like them.

For deer I use the hornady 350gr for moose hawk 400gr. We did lot's of water jug testing. I've read other guys really like the speer's.

Nothing shabby about good cast bullets. I like them both, cast and jacketed. For my uses, they each have their little niche. And for me with hotter loads, IMR 3031 and IMR 4198 both work well.
 
I never see anyone using H4198 in thier 45-70's on this site.
You should try it. I found it fills the case to a higher load density, and seems to produce the same performance & less recoil.
Just my observation.
IMR 4198 is Fine also, but has never equalled the accuracy and standard Deviation of H4198 in any of the 45-70's I have shot.

My fav's. for heavy 45/70 loads are RL-7, AA2015, and H-335, you can use the Rl-7 and AA2015 for reduced loads as well but not the H-335. Others use 4198, H-322 and 3031, it's all good.
