why can I not get the winchester 1886 with a octagon barrel? I called the rep and she said they only sell it with round barrel??

I am sure you could find a gunsmith that would be happy to chamber and fit a barrel to a new 1886 receiver for you. It will cost, but that is the way it goes if you want something that no one is offering.

I bought one of the new Short Rifles with the round barrel and I absolutely love it. Who knows what will show up at the 2012 SHOT show, though.
 
There are some excellent after market octagon barrel makers for the 1886, but you will also require a different forearm and forearm cap.
 
Oh Really? which aftermarket company sells the octagon barrel for the 1886? I would hope they'd have the forarm and cap as well.
 
Check the current listings in the EE for an 1886 with 26" octagon barrel. Just what you are asking about.

Hunter Restorations in Missouri. He makes his own barrels. He may know where you can get the other stuff.
 
Have you looked into the Chiappa, someone should be able to bring one in for you.
