RFB metric-versus-non mags

I tried guys, I really did. Went back 25 pages in this section looking for a description of the difference between metric & non-metric mags. De nada!

I recently picked up an RFB, waiting for it to show up at my office. I'm wondering if the 20 rd mags from my australian L1A1 will fit the RFB.

Metric Mags

The Metric FN FAL mag has a small dimple out the front of the mag. The Inch pattern has a 3/8inch lug sticking out. The mag catch is the same on both. Rigrat
 
So the metric would insert strait into a riffle and metric would be rocking like the ak/vz?

So i guess i accidently purchase some inch pattern mag... but I grinded the lug in front and they fit and work perfect
 
I was going to say you can make inch pattern work by doing what you did. For those wondering...metric will work in inch pattern rifles but not vice versa without "fixing" the lug. As for rocking them in...I still find it easier to rock it in as opposed to inserting it straight...even when the RFB says you can insert straight.

Thanks so much for the pics and subsequent comments. You guys rock! I'm in Florida and will only get back home tomorrow afternoon. You can bet that after the bags are dropped on my bedroom floor, the first thing I'll do is to check my mags...

Does anyone know if the L1A1 is considered an inch or metric version rifle?

The L1A1 mags are British imperial sadly.

Its the front lug on the mag, not the rear.
 
So now the question is; Do I mod all the mags to metric config in order to assure functioning in both rifles? Or risk running the wrong mags when pulling the RFB off the wall for deer/moose hunting or just plain plinking....

Are you saying you ground the lug down flat and it works? Dont you need the dimple to hold the front of the mag in alignment? Is it that simple?

Btw, you can heat the lug up and it should come off as well. I did that years ago, with a CDN 30 rounder that I wanted to fit to a German G1, but never got the dimple put in, as I ended up finding a cheap source of mags shortly thereafter.

Yeah I both 2 and after grinding the 2 COMPLETELY down with out the dimpol they workt 100%!
