Hi guys,

I want to make a PU sniper out of a 91/30.
I want to know what can be a good choice for that kind of project, i mean year and maker... special markings like * @ * ( double O )...
I tough about ex-snipers with bent bolts, but the few i saw were made in 1943-44.
Is it better an older ( read 1939-40-41 ) *normal* 91/30 than an 1944 ex-sniper ???
Any comments are welcome...

Westrifle has EX mosin sniper guns forsale "I would start there if you want a PU set up"

The PEMs a PEs were on the older models

The ex-snipers will make it a nice re-snipered project sans the original scope/mount. You need rifles with Round high wall receiver for PU scope from
1941 to 1945 at Izhevsk
1941 to 1944 at Tula

Depends what you want out of it.

Yeah i saw them... Some are nice !

I already have the scope and mount but its a 54.5mm.
In worst case i can buy another base and sell mine.

So i don't have to be affraid of a rough receiver if its an ex-sniper ??
I want it to be fun to shoot...And accurate

PU snipers only went in service starting in 1942, very few russian snipers were made after 1945. The PU snipers were only set-up on high wall receivers.

Yeah I'm not sure about an ex-sniper... Re-drilling the old holes seems tricky. I'm not speaking from experience though.

I bought a 1943 mosin nagant sniper repro from west rifle and it shoots awesome. Had some 1 inch groupings at 100 yards.

I need to find someone who already done that kind of job...

Sell the scope and mount and buy the complete sniper repro from Westrifle. You cannot beat $480! If you have to pay a smith to convert, it'll cost you more than a new one. If you do the work yourself, you might break even. New bolt handle, trigger work, drill and tap correctly, shimming the mount for windage zero.

IMO, there are better options than a PU scope that I'd rather mount, but if you want the original look, go for it.

I want a PU to grow my mosin collection...

I had the scope/mounts/bent-bolt/drill-tap/canvas-cover/hardware for just under 200 bucks...

Westrifle have some Ex-Snipers with bent bolts aleady on riffle...
The only thing is i have to remove those plugs and find one with the same bolt pattern... 54.5mm

I know Westrifle have some PU scoped M/N but they have mre Ex-Snipers that PU Snipers... More choice...

And for sight the scope/mount I don't worry...
I will sight that thing myself...
I have a tons of shims and good files ;)

For the trigger, i have a nice HuberConcepts trigger at home.

The PU scope and mount can be install on earlyer Hex reciver 91/30.
I baught this 1930 Izzy 91/30 ( see pics lower ) as my first rifle a few years ago. I diden't know much about rifle at that time and got this rifle with very visible import mark :(
I realize that because of the import mark this rifle will never have value so i taught it was the best candidate for some experiance.
I baught a Pu scope and mount kit with a bent bolt and work my stock to accomodate the scope mount. I make a couple of research on the web about where drill and tap the holes and how should i weld the bented bolt to my strait bolt body.
The informations are all over the place and all the stuff needed came in the kit, even the drill and tap. Anybody can do this at home as long as you are carefull and not in a hurry.

The setup wprks, i can do 1.5 " group @ 100 yds with Barnaul 203 grain soft point ammo and i am not a good shooter. Freind of mine are douing even better.

One inch !!! w:h:
Ill be more than happy if my PU M/N gonna shoot one inch @ 100y...
I prefer to set a realistic goal of 1.5 inches...
IMO very few M/N group 1`` @ 100.
You a lucky guy, keep this riffle XD

You shoot what kind of ammo ???

1.5 -2 inches is more the norm. It's not everyday target that I can produce those results :) but I've got enough 1 inch targets now to see what she's capable of I've had great results, and the accuracy is, from what I understand pretty decent for a 70 year old war-time mosin. I am considering the huber concepts trigger - because the trigger on my mosin is rough.

I bought 500 rounds of the prvi commercial ammo. My mosin *loves* it, and I'm going to re-load when done.

I'm currently building another PU or PE / PEM mosin as well.
