down to two, which one?

I bought a Marlin XL-7 in 30-06 this summer.....Love it!! Great quality gun. Scoped it with an old 3.5-10x50 Brunton an ammo sleeve and pivoting rock mount bipod and done. Pull the trigger and she goes bang! Really nice accu-type trigger, breaks clean. Bolt handle is like a cross between a remington and a Ruger Hawkeye. Simple gun that works well. Only thing I didn't like was the hollow synthetic stock, so I filled it with a tube of 100% silicone and she's heavier and no more 'thunk' sound. I looked at the Stevens and they just seemed 'cheap' IMHO. You won't regret the Marlin!

The Stevens 200 is good. Very good for the money. The Marlin X7 came out more recently and had the Stevens to aim at. More than a few owners say it is even better.

Sounds like you won't go wrong with either. I suggest try to get to handle an example of each and you should get whichever feels better to you.

ok well now im second guessing myself marlin xl7 or a mossberg 4x4 like them both held them both but im going to buy the one thats most accurate which one is?

Had a Stevens in 22-250 a few years ago, and while incredibly accurate with handloads, it just felt like a cheap piece of crap. I realize there's tons of upgrades available, but couldn't be bothered to spend a bunch more money to make it look/feel good, so I got rid of it.

"Handled" an XL7 in 25-06 just today, and will definately be going back to buy it tomorrow. Overall it has a lot nicer fit/finish than the Stevens, and the stock is a lot stiffer in the fore-end. The only thing I didn't really like is the 22" barrel, but for $275, I'm not going to complain too loud. Thinking about getting one in 308 just for fun, too.

ok so 4x4 isent a good gun? seems like you get more for your money with it having a muzzel brake barrel fluting but i think im going to listen and go with the marlin

My 30-06 Marlin XL7 shoots under an inch , as mentioned they have a great recoil pad, a nice adjustable trigger and I like the stock better than the Savage also. Mine is a pre-Remmy, so I have no idea how the new ones are.

The only downfall to this rifle is if you have to load and unload a few times during the day while hunting, having a blind mag can be a bit of a pain.

Depend on what you plan to do...

- If you think you will mod it = Stevens 200

- If no mod to be done = Marlin XL7

I have both and the Marlin have a good trigger and recoil pad which the Stevens doesn't have ...

Have fun!
