I have a Savage MKII BTVSS with the laminate thumbhole stock. I bought it earlier last year. It is a very nice rifle, but I haven't fired it too much and I was wondering what you find shoots the best out of it at 50-100 metres?

I bought a bunch of ammo to test out:

- American Eagle High Velocity 40 Gr Solid .22LR - 1240 fps
- CCI Conical Ball 29 Gr Lead Round Nose .22 Long - 710 fps
- CCI Standard Velocity Target 40 Gr Lead Round Nose .22LR - 1070 fps
- CCI Stinger Hyper Velocity Varmint 32 Gr Copper-Plated HP .22LR - 1640 fps
- CCI Velocitor 40 Gr Copper-Plated Hollow Point .22LR - 1435 fps
- Eley Sport Lead Round Nose .22LR - 1085 fps
- Federal Premium Gold Medal Target 40 Gr Solid 22LR - 1200 fps
- Federal Premium HV Match 40 Gr Solid 22LR - 1200 fps
- Remington High Velocity Golden Bullet 40 Gr Plated Round Nose .22LR - 1255 fps
- RWS Target Rifle (Sport Line) 40 Gr Lead Round Nose .22LR - 1073 fps

So far, it has only seen the CCI longs (710 fps) and the CCI Standard Velocity (1070 fps). Both shoot fine, but nothing too great.

I am using Federal 525 bulk pack HV 36 Grain Hollow Point with my Sons Savage MKII FV at 50 yards he is placing groups of 5 easily in a nickel, haven’t gone to 100 yards will this weekend, I'll let you know. This ammo works flawless in my younger son's Ruger 10 22 does not miss a beat. Good ammo and cheap $21.95 at Cabelas. BTW you can never go wrong with CCI Mini Mag Target or Varmint

CCI Standard Velocity!

5 rounds @ 50m:

And a couple with flyers I can't blame on ammo:

5 rounds @ 100m(flyer not ammo's fault):

I'm waiting for a calm day to try some more at 100, but was pretty happy with the 4 shot group. :D

Lapua Standard Plus is what I use in my MKII and I've have pretty good results. The rifle is stock, no bedding or anything and the largest group it will shoot at 50m is .5". At 100m I've managed a couple of groups under 1".

I was just at a .22 shoot this morning and the guys that were winning were all shooting some form of Lapua or Wolf.

So far my MKII TR hates blazer and is doing great with the fiocchi 22crn. Tack driver at 50 yards and can make good hits at 250 yards 3/5 times and this was on my first time out with the rifle

Went out again today, CCI standard velocity does great as do the minimags and stinger. The stingers are great fun (a little more recoil and noise) but they're a little larger than normal 22lr and seem to bind up in the magazine. They are like lasers at 50yards though and are not effected by the wind as much.

Fiocchi m320 isn't any better than the above out of my TR. The minimags seem to be great all the way out to 250 yards and might be the winner. I'll have to do a more scientific comparison but the stingers seem to go all over the place once they go subsonic.

After going through another 500 rounds of various ammunition I have to say that the cci standard velocity is the best out of my TR for both long and short range.

Stinger and minimags *might* be better under 100 yards but for a do it all the standard is the way to go.
