So I was lucky enough to find this old jewel.
Winchester High Wall action stocked and barreled by Griffin and Howe.
Beautiful circassian walnut, buffalo horn tip .... only problem is its 25 Krag.

So now what, not real crazy about the caliber but don't want to mess with it the original barrel either.

Options - Rebarrel and keep original in case I ever sell it or bore it out to 30-40 Krag

That is very nice and if it were at my house I wouldn't mess with it at all.

I would acquire a set of dies, some 30-40 brass and shoot it as is.......I wouldn't change a thing.

X4 + with the views already expressed by Rembo and double gun. I have a somewhat similar 'treasure' and have posted pictures of it previously. It's an old Winchester High Wall, in 219 Donaldson Wasp.

The rifle, calibre and scope may be vintage but it shoots well and seems to prefer a diet of 50gr Hornady VMAX. A little brass forming required using 30-30 brass but the results are well worth the effort.

If you modify that rifle Jesus will kill a puppy in your name.

..and he'd very likely do it with the butt of an SKS and toss the carcass on your doorstep for your kids to stumble upon,...OK, maybe that's a bit harsh:p...but I still wouldn't change that rifle....:D

I see the 25 Krag chamber as a "plus" not a "problem"

Oh GAWD,...not the moose medallion....:eek::D

nice old rifle there too....:)

;)A trivet actually and was a Christmas gift from my wife. It sits on and protects the coffee table in my den for those hot meals while watching hockey games:p.

I'll try to post a pic of mine, its vey similar to Johnn's only in 219 Zipper Imp. with a Hervey Lovell barrel and a B&L 6 - 24 glass.
There is room in the gun safe alongside mine for one in 25 Krag... :D

There were at least two versions of the 25 Krag with the shorter version being more efficient according to Ackley. Many P-14 's were done with .257 Roberts or better ballistics.Harold

I look forward to seeing it:) .
To go with the vintage of my outfit, I picked up a book you might find interesting Twenty Two Caliber Varmint Rifles by Charles S. Landis. A lot of great info on your 219 Zipper Improved, the 219Donaldson Wasp and many others.
