Could someone shed some light on these questions:

1) In a Rem 700 5R, is the magazine and bottom metal different in a .223 from a .308? (I know they are both S/A)

2) Is the magazine on the 5R detachable or is it the hinge plate style?

3) What is recommended for DBM for the .223 calibre that will accept AI mags and easily available in Canada (mid-range prices)

4) What is the twist rate in the .223? 1:8?

I am interested in a .223 5R but there are non available for me to fondle. The closest is 1.5hr drive. Thanks for the help

1. Google images shows it having the standard SA bottom metal, no DBM system.

2. See above

3. BC Tactical has AI bottom metal, and Wolverine Supplies has the magazines. I have bene in contact with both CDI Precision and R+D Precision in the the States, both of whom are willing to ship to Canada. All three sell for ~$300. DBMG LLC. Also sells a .223 bottom metal that uses AR-15 Magazines, and requires "Minor" (but irreversible) milling to the action rails, i do not know if they ship to Canada.

4. Twist is apparently 1:9

Thanks guys and/or gals. I wish it was a 1:8 twist, as I'd like to shoot some of the heavier VLD's. I will likely end up rebarreling though

Whats the point of getting a 5R model if you intend to rebarrel? the barrel is what defines the model... and the price.

Sorry I could have cleared that up. If I can't find a 5R then I would buy a different model (maybe a stainless SPS) and rebarrel it. I am looking to go semi-custom with this rifle, but if the 5R barrels are decent, I would attempt to shoot it out before I get the itch to go with a custom barrel :)

The 5R ( and the 700P for that matter) are nice rifles. Most 5R's I know of, and mine when I owned one, are solid 3/4 MOA rifles with some being a bit better. If you are looking for bottom metal and det mag the best I have used is the ATRS bottom metal with V-Bull also being good. Both ATRS and V-Bull use the AI mags which are, imo, the best aftermarket mags out there and are quite readily available.

Just curious if BC Tacticals DBM is $230.00 and V-Bull's is $450.00 and not to forget ATRS at $550.00 where would BC Tacticals DBM fit in, is the quality not there. I would like to purchase one as well for my rifle but can;t quite decide on which one.
Cheers
