If someone finds an answer for you in a loading book, etc, it will just be for a one size fits all rifles.
Why don't you just seat the bullet so it will go into the chamber and the bolt will close, plus it will work through the magazine?

I have more than one 7.92x57 so i want/like to do things by spec.

Start at 0.030" off the lands or the longest length that will feed through your mag (assuming you want to use the mag), whichever is shorter.

The purpose of a match bulllet is accuracy. An accurate COL is around 20 thou off the rifling. This is different for each rifle. Load a 20 or 50 round box for each rifle. After firing, neck size only (brass will now match the chamber).

Loading by spec is like buying size 13 boots for everyone because most feet will fit....

You don't like the 3 valid answers you have so far? SAAMI lists the max 8x57 OAL as 3.250". Since you want an arbitrary answer that will not be right in any rifle, just use that and carry on.

You bought a match bullet and then want to have it "one size fits all" - which implies the same load for all too. Here's an answer:

- determine which gun requires the shortest OAL (e.g. 0.010" to 0.030" off the lands and fits in the mag). If that's longer than 3.250" then shorten it to that length, but don't lengthen it;
- develop a load that's "safe" in that gun; and
- load em up.
