better put your flame suit on LOL, cause there is maybe 1000 posts dealing with all the details of a SKS.
but to answer some questions, yes its reliable if you clean it, it can take a beating since its a military rifle, and lots of guys hunt with it and take deer and down, i am not sure about bigger then that.

Probably more reliable than an AK, that good enough? And 7.62x39 is very close to 30-30 for ballistics, and that round has probably taken millions of deer.

Get an SKS they are great dependable Rifles, I have Both Russian and Chinese Models and both types work great... never jam.
 
I think the sks can be summed up as a sumo wrestler.

Hard working, and never fails,.. is always there and never quits.
Loves to eat (ammo) and makes you happy.:)

It aint no fnc1 but who cares for 200 bucks.
