Hi Guys,

Aside from the cool factor and some degree of comfort... Are there significant gains in accuracy in switching from the factory plastic stock to a USGI fiberglass one?

Anybody that has done the before and after that can confirm how big of a an improvement?

Thanks
Eric

Well, you can reinforce the foreend and bed the action on the USGI stock. Depends on how much accuracy you demand from your rifle. There's things you can do to tweak the plastic stock though, like shaving the plastic down under the front stock ferrule to increase the gap between it and the front band.

And yes, there is the cool factor. It just feels better dressed in a USGI stock.

I have both of them. I love the USGI glass stock for carrying, abusing, and competing with. I happen to really like the black plastic stock because for all its faults, it's one of the best things the high school shop class students got RIGHT. Yah, sure it's size won't fit everyone here in Canada, but it sure beats the krappy, soft-as-dog-poo, Mystery-Oil chu wood stock.

I like the shape of the black plastic (which by the way, some people love painting with Krylon) stock since it's kinda fatter like a National Match wannabee stock. But it's stiff enough to play with at longer ranges. Too bad we cannot fiberglass it into a stiffer unit for more serious LR work like I and Sgmacken have done! :)

Hey, it's a $ 400 rifle.... Who gives a poop? Go out and shoot the krap out of it!

And yes, the edges on the black plastic stock are sharp on my girlie soft teacher hands, but a few minutes with a rasp solved that problemo quicko! :D

For some reason, the Kommunist Zhinese are improving things slowly. I don't mind! It's a great value never-the-less!

That is the absolute truth.

Perhaps there's some poor government official over there with the task of following all the M14 threads here on CGN, who then in turn is going back and telling the shop classes that they must work harder if they want a Level 4+ on their projects (teacher humour :D).
