I'm just getting into reloading and saved a bunch of federal American eagle .233 brass. I was going to use this for my first loads but wanted to know if the primers are crimped. how do I tell if they are crimped and what special procedures are involved if they are. Thanks for the information.

I've found most AE are crimped.
To tell the difference, see pic:
Left is not crimped, right is, notice the crimp ring
To remove crimp you will need a primer pocket swager. RCBS make a swaging die, I find it to work quite well. Dillon make a standalone swager.

AE tactical is for sure crimped, and there are dozens of ways to deal with it!
Once you size and deprime your brass you can use a case mouth deburring tool, a primer pocket reamer made for crimp removal such as the lyman hand tool, a swage die like the RCBS, a swager like the Dillon super swager... Some people even use a drill bit but that's kinda sloppy...
The dillon swager is great because it doesn't need to be setup in a press, you only secure the unit to a table or bench and start running cases thru.
The RCBS is nice because it's... Ummm... Made by RCBS
The lyman tool is great because you can put the cutter in a cordless drill
The rest of the options get the job done but rely alot on the operators feel to be consistent....
