I just bought a new Bolt action Savage Axis XP (22-250) for Coyote hunting.
Yesterday was the first day that i used the gun.
I went to a range to test the rifle on some targets!

I fired 10 rounds.
I was very disappointed because of the 10 rounds, 3 were a misfire!

With these misfires came just a click, there were no dent in the primers.

Would any of you have any idea as to what the problem could be?
Would the issue be in the bolt or the trigger assembly?

Can i fix this issue myself or should i take it to a gunsmith?

Were the missfires random or at the end of the shooting session? If random maybe bolt not properly closed if at the end broken firing pin. Either way not acceptable performance for a new rifle. I would take it back and have someone look at it. Let us know what you find out.

If you got it new it should be covered by warranty if it's the gun. How was the indent on the fired cases? I had the same thing happen twice on my mossberg 100atr but I'm pretty sure the bolt handle wasn't all the way down.
Hopefully you get it sorted out, it's a sick feeling to hear that click when you're looking through the scope at a deer.
I'd be interested to know what caused this.

Good luck

Was it cold out? How cold? Is the bolt lubricated? Is the bolt completely clean and completely dry?

I have one in .223, .25-06 and .308... I have had NO issues with either of them. I did you the youtube trigger job on all 3 and they are freakin' awesome!
