Do i have to crimp my 40 s&w reloads

Hey guys want to know if someone could help me out new to the reloading of pistol rounds and wondering if i had to crimp it or if it is just a personal preference

I've reloaded and fired I say close to 10k rnds of 40 s&w out of my semi autos and I've never crimped any of them.

You should 'taper crimp' (vice 'roll crimp') your .40 S&W reloads. If you don't, you risk bullet 'set back' which could lead to dangerous pressure spikes. Further, .40 S&W is particularly sensitive to pressure changes which could result in catastrophic failure of your pistol (ie: KABOOM!).

You need to remove the belling, just not much more. The 3 vs 4 die thing is a preference thing. Too often when you combine a task, you have to compromise. In some calibers, particularly with lead bullets, having the crimper as part of the seating die can cause shaving problems.

Dunno if this necessarily applies to 40 but a frequent cure for feeding problems with 45 ACP is the use of the ubiquitous "Lee Factory Crimp" die. This is a pretty cheap addition to whatever die set you happen to currently have. It was recommended to me here on CGN years ago and has been a definite problem solver.
