New Ranger Rifle

The RCMP are supposed to be getting a replacement for the current issue sidearm, they are also getting Colt Canada C8 carbines. Probally 5 or so per detachment.
.... Patrol Carbines are going to be, initially, on a limited issue. Basically, the RCMP has had these available,in the inventory, along with the MP5 for years. ERT and Specialized Units admittedly. Now Providing an option to the .308 rifles and 870 Shotguns for some Detachments.Just simply expanding on the distribution. As to new Pistols ? Well, I'd question that. Regardless, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Tendering, of a replacement Rifle for the "Rangers". ...... David K

Having owned both the 308 and the 223 version of Remington's 16.5" police carbines, I always thought they weren't a bad little gun, especially if the fellow had any shotgun training a la 870. For some areas, this might not be a bad thought. 308 for areas with critters and open spaces, 223 for urban. Although for something like the Rangers, a pump action might be a liability in the great frozen north.

If you read the specs I think HKP30L is a better fit.

You better belive I am good to go with the HK over our the current issue Bob Marley.

It be Jammin mon.

the sarp 2 program is worth 1.006 billon dollars. i have an email at work from ottawa about it. they will get a new rifle and many other changes are happening. if your military and on the din pm me and ill send you a copy of the e mail. makes for some good reading.

cheers
angry.

I sure hope not. I've had the opportunity to look at these rifles. Great rifle for someone who doesn't have to pack it or carry it long distances. I'll keep the Queen's enfield thanks.

Ranger rifle? Ruger Scout rifle and get Ruger to put in some sights that are adjustable for elevation. Maybe drop it in a synthetic stock if they want to get spendy.

well here is the scoop...
The Canadian Government has decided that they will use the trusted Lee-enfields till the supply of thewm run out of war stocks... that should last them till about 2099 ... This comes from two guys that were looking at replacements...

oh and btw the endfields so far have been the only weopeon not to fail in the extreme cold, no jams or misfires... The enfields are great for the type of work they do... kills polar bears, wolves, seals and does not penatrate russian subs conning towers lol

You must mean 1999. There is no "war stock" of Lee Enfields, just like there is no war stock of FNs or SMGs. There isn't even "war stock" of C7s.

I must be missing something but on Ruger's website the rifle is listed as 7 pounds. On world.guns.ru the No.4 Enfield is listed as 4.11kg (8.3 pounds).

Que?

It's not the weight - it's ergonomics and convenience of carry.

Ballance point is right over the mag which makes single hand carry a pain
LER scopes haven't made any advancements since the 80's
If you want to run a conventional scope you need to remove the LER rail

They look way cool though - but these rifles aren't for me.
Although I don't use LER scopes I suppose I don't mind them.
However I've yet to see a good one with adjustable M3 style turrets.

A scout rifle without a stripper clip groove? I don't get it.
AI mags don't allow for that anyways and can be a pain to reload.

A pain in the arse over-all IMHO.
I'd rather have a modified remmy

Anyways
Rangers didn't desire CRF - Push feed all the way.
That was a very clear message

Regardless I'll use what ever they give me and be happy :)
However I will miss my issue CNo4Mk1* terribly.
And yes, there are no more parts and there are no weapons techs trained on the lee enfield anyways.

Let's say for a moment that we do decide on the Ruger scout rifle. Would it be possible to get Ruger to make changes to the rifle to address some of the problems?

It's kind of sad but there aren't any rifles on the market that I'm aware of that even come close to matching the Enfield. In your opinion, being a Ranger yourself, is there anything that even comes close?

Thats right the last batch of rifles were purchased in Pakistan to keep the Ranger's No.4s working.

I also heard a sickening runour that the War Stock FNs cost the government less than 20 thousand a year to maintain and store, yet they were scraped as being too expensive to keep.

This same person also told me the concept of "war stocks firearms" died with the FNs. All they keep is what they need right now, nothing extra.

remington

Hey Guys
LOL well they have decided on the remington, 700 in 308. As far as the Enfields well they will be here years and years. Yes there is shortage of parts (well sort of), however there are a lot of fully already made Enfields still in war stocks, tons of them litterally.

Yes
The Steyr SSG action comes pretty close but I'd take a rem 700 DM and be happy.

I doubt the Rem 700 would be chosen. The big problem is the extractor. (Wait while I put on my asbestos suit) I know that for most of us the Rem 700 works just fine, but in the arctic, with snow and ice building up on an in any exposed tool, I can't conceive that the Rem 700 extractor would not plug up with ice and fail to extract.

Yes, I could well be wrong but all I know that I wouldn't trust it in those conditions.

... All things considered, and the Clock in the World events is ticking away, the sooner a suitable rifle is selected and put into Service the Better ! With the World Economy, and Political unrest springing up, Sovereignty issues will be coming to a shore near us pretty damn soon. Thus the role of the Rangers, particularly in the far North, will become ever more important. Thus no point in "Cheaping out" on what's needed operationally ! Far too much at stake for petty squabbles and penny pinching ! ..... David K
