In some ways it depends. Factory (Oberndorf) yes...JC Higgins, FN Supreme, Dumoulin and the like, still good. Santa Barbara or similar cheap re-work...not so much. I really appreciate a nice historically significant military variant, or one that was built using old world craftsmanship. Others, not so much. There are so many variants that the answer is not black and white!

Fully dressed milsurp rifles don't really turn my crank. I can appreciate historical accuracy but my interest is primarily hunting rifles. To that end a factory Mauser sporter, and to an even greater degree a custom Mauser sporter, really gets me in a lather. Start showing off a Brit Mauser sporter by a top maker (like the 375 H&H by Holland and Holland that I saw a few years back at the Calgary Gun Show) makes my eyes roll into the back of my head and incomprehensible sounds come from my mouth as a wave of bliss washes over me.

If you will excuse me...

ditto

A fine, well-crafted and finished sporter is really classy. A 'bubba special' sawn-down military 'sporter' is boring. And full military finish doesn't have any special appeal to me

I personally like the look of both, have seen some very nice military stock sporters that were done well, i just bought a swede sporter m96(1st one) 6,5x55. into my milswedes just as much as my comswedes. B2
