Advice on Zeiss

A typical 375 H&H load (270 grains, 2,800 fps) with a 200 yard zero will drop around 8 inches at 300 yards, 14 inches at 350 yards and 22 inches at 400 yards - if you are aware of these drops rates, know your distance to target and are comfortable with "manual" hold-over, then a rapid-z (or any holdover reticle) is nice, but not really necessary.

It's an older Parker Hale .375 H&H

I've got a few PH rilfes, and bolt handle clearance will depend on when your rifle was made. I have some earlier rifles with a "high" bend that come very close (will even touch the ocular bell), but the later production model have a "low" bend that clears without an issue.

If you have bolt handle clearance issues, a competent 'smith can bend the handle a bit shallower to give you the clearance needed.

Also take a peek at Minox. I just picked up a ZA5 2-10x40 for my .375, and its a great scope. A friend has a Zeiss and they are both great and (in my opinion) of similar quality. What I liked about the Minox was that it appeared to give more contrast to dark colours (the ones you usually want to see when hunting). Right now (or at least quite recently you could get a $50 mail in on the scope, this brought mine to under 400 with taxes and all figured in.

I just bought the exact same scope at ISG's year end sale over the weekend...:)

I am quite impressed with the optic quality. I have a conquest 6.5-20 and I'll admit, the overall build quality of the Zeiss is better. There are some small details with the Minox I don't like, but the glass on the Minox is VERY good for the price. I have not had a chance to sight it in, but so far I'm quite happy with it. I would still prefer another conquest for my target rifles, but would not hesitate on another Minox for a hunting rifle.
