Reloading for Mini 14

Hi Guys, I have to reload 500 for a guy with a Mini 14. He wants V-Max 50gr and 55gr.
What powders and loads work best? I`ve never played with loading for semi`s.
I know every gun is different but need a starting point for the hungry pig.

You need to buy a reloading manual.
They have all kinds of useful info, like what powder and charge to use.:)

Are you a licensed ammunition manufacturer? If I'm not mistaken it's illegal to reload for anyone other than yourself.
 
I've had good results with IMR4064, BLC-2, and H4895 in .223/55 gr bullets. See your loading manuals for more info.

One thing I'd suggest is you load 10-20 or so of any load you choose and try it for function and fit in the rifle before you load the whole 500.

With all those reloading manuals you have you probably know that (above) already but it's a very valid point.

WW748 or BLC-2 are ball powders that flow like water so if you find a good load with either of them that would be the powder of choice. It's what I use frequently and with loading 500 it would make your job easier with no sacrifice in quality. I get very good results in my mini with those powders.

Can you show me where it states that? I have never heard that before. Not saying you're wrong, just news to me. I thought you couldn't sell re-manufactured ammo to someone unless you are a licensed business. Reloading for a friend without charging a fee is fine as far as I know. Anyone?

Wanker.:rolleyes: I use H335 or Benchmark powder for .223. Benchmark is Extreme so it's temp stable. Off the top of my head I think I was using 25.0gr of H335 with 55grFMJ in my XCR.
 
I use IMR 8208 @ 25 with bulk 55's.
Usually have 8208 on hand so I use it (but I'll use anything that's laying around)

But keep in mind I don't bench shoot her, just play. I don't clean the pockets or chamfer, just mash em together :D

Works just fine, although if he wants bench rest results, my info is worthless ;)
 
If he has an accident ie blows up hid rifle with your ammo, you open up some nasty legal action potentials.If i was reloading for someone else, I would want the rifle to test the loads at a minimum and a written waivor ar the maximum, you decide.
 
I will NEVER reload for anyone else! I have developed a load in a friends gun, then taught him how to do it, and supervised his work.
I didn't think you could even own a mini 14 in Canada!! Aren't they baby killers capable of penetrating battle tanks at over 3 miles?

Now I may not be reading this right but it's right there in black and white..

I've always been told that the only way you can load for someone else is IF THEY PARTICIPATE in the process..Mostly due to liability issues..If you double load and sell to someone and a KABOOM does serious injury, you're getting sued PERIOD.

He doesn't specify if he's not charging..however I'm sure he's getting something in return because that's a lot of work for no compensation.
If something real bad happens with one of those rounds and a law suit follows, even a thank you case of beer would be argued by a good lawyer as being payment, thus the ammo was sold.
