M14 and variant grease?

What type of grease does everyone use on their M14 type rifles? There's a few types that are recommended but they're pretty hard to find in Canada from what I can tell. I read a few places that wheel bearing grease is a no-no but what's the risk? (I don't like being told: "You can't do this." I like: "You can't do this, because...Insert logical answer, hopefully with proof, here.") I WANT to use Bel-Ray Synthetic Waterproof grease because I use it on everything for my bikes and truck, awesome stuff and I have a ton of it but it's essentially wheel bearing/marine grease.

What do you recommend? Is there some additive in particular that I should be looking for?
 
Plain old automotive wheel bearing grease will work just fine. Surviving millions of rotations of a wheel bearing is much harder duty than anything grease on a rifle is subjected to.

You will be fine. Jest ensure yer #### don't fall off! :eek:

Just go for it! Grease all contact points that you see visible wear! And oh yah, read my sticky(ies). :D

hmmm bacon fat to lube M14.....yet another reason to love pigs......off for some bacon, and lube the rifle lol.

I run a synthetic lube that I get from work. check into getting a syringe with a fine tip to aid in greasing the bolt roller/op rod area without having to break it down. I also flaired out a 40 s&w casing and use it to push grease into the roller.
 
For the past little while ive been using a white moly based grease but have recently switched to a lithium based white grease due to my store discount .. havnt tried anything else and this stuff goes a long way .

Alot of the military recommended ones cant be shipped out of Canada , ive emailed alot of people who still have old stock and they claim its ITAR controlled goods...
 
In the summer I use wheel bearing grease.

In the fall I switch to the white lithium grease as the wheel bearing gets pretty thick and does somewhat affect the smooth operation of the bolt.

There must be different lithium grease because when I used that at -30c the bolt would stick open in most positions. I switched to Lubriplate and it's better in the cold. Still have to make sure there's not too much for the winter.

I switch to the white lithium in the fall. I don't shoot it in the winter, particularly at -30. At -30, I prefer to snuggle close to mama and watch TV.
