Meet my 1954 Russian SKS. Just bought it this evening from someone local. Was told it was never fired, and originally purchased from Canadian Tire.

Thinking i'll eventually throw it in to a Tapco stock and modernize the look and feel. Can't wait to get out and shoot it.

Just don't throw out the original parts so you can put it back to original when you get tired of crapco. Nice rifle!

Thanks for the advice guys. I am kind of warming up to the original look. Don't worry RMX, If I did get one I wouldn't even think of throwing away the original stock.

Can't wait to clean it tomorrow and get out and shoot it this weekend.

I agree. And went through the same process. Saw online thoight aww yeah. Bought all the stuff, installed it, realized it couldn't compete with the stock confign so sold it all, and went back to stock.
Buy ammo, or another gun.haha
Nice sks!

Most of the stuff thats aftermarket available for the SKS to hang on it makes it LESS reliable and LESS efective in my opinion. Stock as it came from the factory is the way to go.

All of your logic is sound, It shall remain unmolested. Thanks again for the advice guys.

Very sharp! I love the look of a stock SKS with nice wood.

The first one I got was shipped in and the stock was a mess and had minor damage. I am putting an aftermarket monte carlo on it and may add tech sights. I bought another in-person and it is a perfect non-refurb. That one stays exactly as it is.

Enjoy!

Stripped it around noon and cleaned everything, even disassembled the bolt and cleaned it. Didn't need too much work, the guy before me did a decent job. Just got back from the range and it fired like a champ! Started out with 2 rounds at a time, firing slowly at first. Rapid fired about 15-20 rounds (was getting dark). I have come to realize how easy it's going to be to burn through ammo with this thing. I may have to look at getting corrosive to save money. I love cleaning it so that won't be a problem.
