.45 calibre under $600?

I'm looking, and my friends are giving me hell for wanting to go Norinco.

I like the Ruger p345 and the Para GI Expert.

But for the price I could go Norinco and a load of ammo to take to the range.

Is the extra coupla hundred worth it?

As I am a first time handgun buyer, I'm curious.
 
I have personally owned all three of the pistols listed. My order in preference:

Ruger-Quality, feels great in the hand

Para.-Never had one iota of a problem although others have (apparently)

Nork.- Alright as a project gun but found to be wanting as a stock one. (need to mill slide to fit sights, sharp edges abound, springs loose their tension...)

YMMV
 
Norc 1911. Change grips. Install adjustable sights. Get a trigger job.

Practice.

If you're concerned primarily about cost, 45ACP is not for you.

For a first-time handgun buyer, .22LR is the obvious choice.
 
Whom in life can afford to have no regard for cost?

I just want my dollar to go as far as possible. Remember, I'm new. Still no basis for a real experience cost/quality balance yet. Thats why I'm here!

In general, Norkie 1911 45acps are reliable, accurate, inexpensive, at least as durable as any other makes/brands and possibly more so than some mid-priced cast steel versions, reasonably well finished, does have some sharp edges (but real men don't care:D).

What more is there?

Oh yes, Norkies are not for gun snobs.

Once fired brass 9mm - 6c per
Once fired brass .45 - 11c per

Lead DRG 125 gr RN 9mm - $42.00 per 500
Lead Wolf 230 grs RN .45 - $56.00 per 500

Powder - 9mm (above bullets) - 3.8 gr
Powder - .45 ACP (above bullets) - 4.7 gr

Primers = negligible

Not a lot in it. Even 10mm is reasonable

If you get into any match shooting at all you can expect to at least shoot triple that amount. And you SHOULD get into one of the handgun sports. It's great fun, and it tests your ability to shoot well in short times.

Even shooting twice a month just for range giggles you can expect to shoot twice as much as your coupla hundred. Hanguns just make it easy.
 
If you are in the market for a budget 1911 style I say skip the norinco and spend a very little bit more for a SAM 1911 they have a good selection listed on the wolverine website.
