I may have chosen an AR if I were a paper jockey due to the lower initial
cost but I'm not, I drag it into the bush honestly almost every single weekend and sometimes twice.
So nonrestricted was my only option and 10round mags was a must. The acr wasn't available, I heard bad things about tavors, I fondled the Swiss arms but they didn't feel right and the ar mag conversion is just too much bother, the su-16 wasn't available and it's god awfully ugly as Fu$k IMO, and I wanted something more compact than the mini 14. Another option that popped up after I purchased my xcr was the keltec rfb, I must admit I really like that gun in theory but from what I've heard they are pretty hit n miss.
So I am extremely happy with my xcr. It's hard to keep track but I must be about 42-4300 rounds through it now with not one malfunction other than me not seating the magazine all the way a few times.
I bought it, brought it home, tore it down to every single spring, screw, and pin. Cleaned, lubed and locktite'd it. Took it shooting, started on gas 4 for a few shots and all was fine, down to 3, 2 and has been on 1 since. I must admit one issue, I used a thick thick thick oil on the hammer that first cleaning/oiling. It caused primer blanking. I pulled the hammer/pin out, cleaned and relubed with very thin oil and never cleaned or oiled it again for about 4000, yes four thousand more shots, and only then I cleaned it because I was embarrased of it's muddy, and rusty condition.
The only complaints I have is I wish I could have a shorter barrel, I wish I could uses a supressor, I wish I had a "fun" selector and I wish either .223 was cheaper or I got it in 7.62x39, and I wish I had the funds for the 308 version.
